Georgia vs Georgia Tech at Truist: I Can’t Watch

No, literally, there’s no way I can watch it.

I don’t know the specifics why, except that somehow the crews for the Braves Network is involved, per this reliable (jest) source:

I guess we can listen the old-fashioned way. However, it’s important to know that it will be at 7 pm tonight. It’d be nice to sweep the big 3 this year…wonder who gets the nod for the mid-week mound?

  1. This was the case last year, as well. Which made me think they would plan ahead and have a solution. Hell, how about don’t play the game there if this is the case.

I’m sure I don’t have the details correct, but last year they said it was something to do with cameras and camera crews. I think UGA was the home team last year so they would have had to bring cameras and camera operators to Atlanta to broadcast the game because the Braves camera crew travels with the Braves. Guessing Tech is home this year and it is the same deal. I can’t recall if the Braves take their cameras on the road or if they simply won’t allow Tech or UGA to use their cameras.

Can they not just bring the scales down equipment that is used for SECN+ or ACC+ games? This is ridiculous. Two Top 5 teams and the only way to watch the game is to be there in person. I’m pretty sure this is the only Georgia baseball game you can’t stream this year.

Josh Brooks, why is this game played at Truist if only a small fraction of the fan bases can watch it?

  2. Didn’t they used to play this at the Gwinnet Stripers field? It’s halfway between schools. Seems like the better solution to me.

      • I think that is part of the no TV coverage, as well. They want the stadium full to raise more money for the charity. I can understand that part of it. I does seem though if you limit it to some type streaming option only you could still meet that goal. Hell, just charge for the game stream to increase the money raised.

  3. So no home field advantage for either team but let’s do something big to raise revenue by playing at Truist yet kill the primary source of revenue by not televising. Net effect…worse experience for the fans. Other than the players getting to be in a MLB ballpark what can be the possible benefit of this? I suppose a sellout would be big money but I’m guessing it won’t be. Hope I’m wrong for the team’s sake. It’s like they continue to be running an experiment on how far they can push fans before we just give up.

    • I think the main reason is it being a fund raiser, but I would think you could raise additional money with a PPV streaming option.

  4. If they are not televising due to concerns over raising money for the charity they at least could show it on a pay per view basis. Heck, it’s one game I’d gladly pay for to save me driving in the hell of Atlanta traffic.
