First, these are nerds so their sense of humor is different from normal people. However, as an engineer myself, I will attempt to translate.
I think the “joke” here is that someone at Tech didn’t say “To Hell with Georgia” which is codified somewhere in their entrance criteria, and instead changed it to “Tarnation”, which is the height of hilarity to them, apparently.
As a man of culture and distinction (since you are from UGA), you shouldn’t look too deeply for hidden meanings or double-entendres.
I think it would behoove the trade school if they dropped Georgia from Georgia Institute of Technology since cryin Key has such nightmares and won’t speak said name of the number one university in his home state! They could just be known as the institute of North Avenue. Any changes to their stadium known as the.North Avenue erector set would still need approval by their Daddy CKS.
