First, there was the let down that was the Hoop Dawgs losing to Ole Piss in the SEC Tournament (PSA: Ole Miss just beat Alabama and is advancing…could they be the 2026 version of the 2008 Georgia Bulldogs in the Tornado Dome?). Then our Diamond Dawgs forgot about situational hitting and dropped their SEC opener to Tennessee last night, 7-4. But here’s the image from before the game:
Maybe Kirby needs to come coach the baseball team, too. Something tells me the swag and the dugout shenanigans would dry up quickly and, somehow, we’d be winning bigger and better. The swag and “feed the trees” would give way to “keep chopping trees” and we’d be barreling over first basemen and catchers just to prove a point. Send Javon Bullard in as a baserunner and let loose the dogs of war. Can’t hit a ball, but can hit a person.
I digress.
In some positive news, it looks like the Gym Dawgs are making a comeback.
Beating Alabama is always satisfying, and if Wes can’t right the ship at Foley, let Kirby come in as a guest manager for the Alabama series.
Sigh. Go Dawgs.
Can’t recall where I read it or when, but some wag back in the day quipped that at UGA the two main sports were “football and spring football”. The clip sort of speaks to that……BTW getting tired of losing to the Red Cup Rednecks, regardless of the sport…….
The Diamond Dogs did score 3 of the 4 runs without the use of the long ball and with two outs and no base runners. That inning was an offensive thing of beauty. Tennessee has one of the better pitching staff in the conference. We lost a competitive Game 1. The Vols starter was dealing to start that game and then the Dogs got to him.
I don’t get the “Get off my lawn” mentality most seem to have here towards the baseball team. Two players wear SWAG for the most part. The rest of the team, not so much. As for the dugout antics, every team does that now. It’s part of the game.
Wes Johnson going into his third season has already hosted two regionals, a Super Regional, and is the fastest Georgia baseball coach to 100 wins. What’s a guy gotta do to make fans happy? The team is fun to watch and a consistent challenger to make it to Omaha now. Enjoy it.
The gym dogs are another example of holding on to a coach too long. Creen, Stricklin, Fox all were retained too long just like Kepets. If a coach at UGA in any sport isn’t competing for championships in year 3 they gotta go.
But he wins 10 games a year, but he wins 20 & we dance every 2-3 years, but he wins 30+ every year and we can’t win a super regional….but, but, but…..
Damn Richtophiles!
If you ain’t first, you’re last! Woo!
Kupets was given every opportunity to be successful and a long leash because of Suzanne Yoculan Leeburn and the liquor money.
That first year when Suzanne was there to help they were good. Once Suzanne left after the first season it was straight downhill. Courtney was given every chance plus some to turn things around and unfortunately it just kept getting worse. The quick turnaround has been very impressive.
If you’ve never been to a gymdawgs meet I highly recommend going. It’s great family fun and the house is again rocking. Hopefully more championships are in the near future.
Amazing turnaround for the new coaches of the gymdawgs. They quickly went from bad to we can beat anyone in their house too.
