Legacy Athletes

NC State will likely have no shortage of quarterback talent for the foreseeable future thanks to Philip Rivers ever-expanding family.

I have no doubt the kids will have every bit of talent their father possessed, so NC State might become an ACC force to be reckoned with for, say, the next twenty years or so.

If there were one Georgia player to have a son to play for the Georgia football team, who would it be, and why?

Discuss.

  1. I’m going with the bloodlines of the Baileys. The first generation were pretty outstanding with Ronald, Champ, and Boss. The raw talent and natural ability of Champ and Boss was incredible.

Champ has at least one son, but he is pretty young. Under 10 years old still. Champ coaches baseball with my cousin in Atlanta and I’m pretty sure his son is the stud of the team.

  2. I grew up in middle GA so my vote would be anyone from Johnson or Washington counties. I hear they were pretty good.

  3. Andrew Smart so KirbDawg stays through 2032 (I don’t know if that date is as accurate as the Germans bombing Pearl Harbour) or whenever Andrew would exhaust his 5 years.

  4. Steston Bennett IV has a child with a 6’5” UGA All SEC volleyball player and Stetson Bennett V leads the 2046 Bulldogs to back to back titles

  5. Give me some of those ‘21/‘22 DL kids the way the Perry family pumped out linemen for Clemson back in the ‘80s.

  6. As an aside, what Phillip Rivers did in coming out of retirement to give it a go with the Colts may have been one of the most underrated athletic accomplishments of 2025. They lost, but Rivers gave them a better shot.

  7. I echo the sentiments about Pollack, Bowers, and Gurley.

I think we could also use a bevy of legacy players with the last names of Chubb and Michel too.

As for a UGA legacy, I found out about this last spring. The son of Neville Austin is a reserve goalkeeper for Spurs. I am an Arsenal fan and I relish our 4-1 victory in the N London Derby this past Sunday, but it is kind of cool seeing him on the team.

Neville taking Shaq to the hole in the dying seconds of a tie game at Stegeman for the SEC regular season title was a highlight of my undergrad experience. He got to the line, made 1 of 2 and we were SEC champs!
