About That Trip to Columbia

In our new nine-conference-game format, we get to revisit a long lost rival: South Cackalacky. Considering the graphic below, it looks like Beamer Ball is all in it to win it this year…

Georgia went 1-2 against South Carolina from 2011-2013, by the way, even in 2012. which was a 35-7 loss in Columbia marking the lone season loss for a team that was a hair away from heading to the National Championship.

The less said about that game, the better. Especially for Mike Bobo.

Anyway, to make matters worse, we play South Carolina in November, exactly one game before we play Georgia Tech.

Let’s hope we’re healthy and ready, because we have to head to Columbia. I wonder if it’ll still be 100 degrees at kickoff that late in November. It usually seems to feel that way, anyway.

  1. The 2011-13 was the peak of oversigning. Richt would not participate and teams like s Carolina and Vandy did. Once oversigning stopped spurrier was forced to quit (52 points can do that).

  2. I live in SC and I put a daughter through that school (wonderful thing, in state tuition) so I’m too familiar to have the requisite level of contempt. But I still say that even though we own a huge series edge over South Carolina, the biggest thing that ever happens in South Carolina is beating Georgia, and they always have an ordinary player or two who has a sublime moment against us.
PS my daughter is a Georgia fan even though she went to SC. In 8th or 9th grade I took her to an Aaron Murray signing. That did the trick.

    • My daughter is a MS State grad (in state tuition). She too is a UGA fan. She had an Aaron Murray jersey when she was a kid. She’s 24 this year.

  3. PS, to give credit where it’s due, the tailgate experience in Columbia is pretty nice. Good parking with those fairgrounds, and those party rooms for donors. As long as it ain’t too hot of course.

  4. I cherish the opportunity to visit them in November, like y’all’s favorite coach once said; “Nice thing about playing Georgia early is a few of their stars will be suspended.” Let’s see what happens when the reality of their losing (zero titles in anything except wallowing in their own poultry feces) ways and injuries from the SEC grind do to their vaunted load of All-Americans…

p.s. it ain’t really a rivalry if the opponent doesn’t know it

  5. Beamer has some players but Kirby has more..
For some reason, SC usually plays Georgia with a huge dose of adrenaline.
And for some reason, Georgia still has a tendency to start games flat.
Kirby needs to put that game on his “Come out like you did in the SECCG” list.
2026 isn’t the year to tempt fate with a slow start in the chicken coop.
As far as GT… They lost a lot. Thinking they’ll be down quite a bit.

  6. Ahem. Sackliner is not a rival.
Columbia is the worst trip I have made in this conference.
We tailgated in an actual junkyard.
We sat five feet from the Sun.
They literally ran out of water.
We won, but I ain’t going back.
