Tuesday Refugee Roundtable: Marketing and Promotions

Check this out…brave the weather, and riches are your reward.

And two dollar beer? Hell, I’ll start walking there now.

Anyway, for today’s Roundtable…what’s the best fan promotion you’ve ever experienced at a game…or, what addition or nuance to Georgia football games have you enjoyed the most?

Discuss.

  1. 1998 peach bowl – chick fil a put beanie cows in every seat. Georgia scored a TD and guess where the beanie cows ended up?

  2. so if they are $2 concessions for this game… why are they $15 for all other games…Gordon G. winning.

  3. Probably the best stadium perk I can remember (barely) is being able to wrap a twenty around my buddy’s used ticket stub to get into the old Gator Bowl and watch us beat the Gators. Oh, and the booze was free thanks to the gallon zip lock baggie taped to my stomach.

As an aside, I loved the old single level bowl stadiums like the original Gator Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl. Sight lines are great and you can really feel the crowd. Getting in/out…not so great.

  4. C&S Bank mini UGA plastic footballs tossed into the crowd by pretty cheerleaders and the plastic reusable Posse’s cups. Your over 40 if you know what I’m talking about.

  5. Went to a Port St. Lucie Mets game a few years ago, and it was $1 night. Tickets, hot dogs, snacks, t-shirts…. beer, all for one dollar each. Lots of very drunk people at that game

  6. The Savannah Bananas have a pretty good deal: your ticket gets you all you can eat (hot dogs, burgers, chips, cookies) and drink (soft drinks). Beer costs $7, but you can pre-buy vouchers for $5 a beer. If you’re taking the family, it’s the best deal in town.

    • Yeah, but you have to somehow get tickets to the Savannah Bananas. Not the easiest/cheapest ticket out there unless you were an early adopter.

      • True. I was one of their first season ticket holders back in 2016(?). They were $18/game in year 1. Now I think they work out to about $40/game in Savannah – still not a terrible deal compared to other options. Thought about giving them up as the prices went up and they moved to full-time Banana-ball, but my employees like to go (and I’d never get tickets again) so I let them use them.

  7. Doesn’t it have to be 4 tix, 4 hot dogs & 4 Cokes that the Nerds ran several years back by default?

    • I’d rather have the George Thorogood package: 1 Bourbon, 1 Scotch and 1 beer.

  8. This is really old school, but I seem to recall hearing a story about the Dawgs playing a football team from Virginia (UVA or VMI?) at Sanford Stadium in the 1940s or 50s. It was bat night, so all of the UGA fans were given small wooden baseball bats (no idea why). UGA lost the game and the Virginia fans tried to storm the field not realizing there was a fence inside the Hedges. When they got caught up on the fence, the UGA fans came down from the stands with their bats and whooped ’em like they stole something. Trying to “get the picture“l of this scene cracks me up!
