Pete Golding may have gotten one over on Kirby in the Sugar Bowl, but Kirby can confidently say Dabo never got one over on him quite like Swinney did here.
If you don’t have 8 minutes, the summary is essentially that Ole Miss was tampering and didn’t do it in a very discreet way. To make matters slimier, the agents involved tried to convince Clemson that if they doubled the athletes NIL deal, they’d give Clemson more information to burn Ole Miss with.
Clemson declined.
Never thought I’d say it, but I got some mad respect for Dabo Swinney doing what he can to save us from this bullshit era of college football.
Whatever you do, Dabo, don’t hold that Tiger. Let the hate flow through you.
To paraphrase Jerry Tarkanian, Sankey and the NCAA will punish the nation’s sweetheart the University of Mississippi by putting Mississippi State on probation.
I know it’s popular to hate Dabo. I don’t. I’ve always been indifferent to him. Pete Golding however is a schmuck and I thought so before the game earlier this month. He’s a freaking used car salesman that thinks he’s Warren Buffet. He’s the cousin who has been to rehab four times that everybody tolerated at Thanksgiving while he blathers about the business he’s supposedly starting and all the money he’s supposedly making. He’s an imposter and knows it but has the nerve to be arrogant. I hope Kirby dislikes him as much as I do.
Hopefully, CKS hates losing as much as he loves winning…GO DAWGS!!
I don’t think you have anything to worry about there.
I don’t get the love for Golding. You sum it up perfectly: he’s the frat guy whose daddy probably bailed him out from his DUI (or two), always has something working that’s going to break big but never does, and runs up his credit cards trying to impress the young chicks at the PCB Hooters. That his nickname is Widespread Pete is both fitting, and an insult to one of our finest bands.
I can’t believe we lost to this burnout.

I dont hate or like him either.
Why are agents involved? Oh, yeah…the money. Why do athletic departments have GMs? Oh, yeah…the money. Buying and selling 18 yr olds is considered trafficking in some corners of the world. It does not and never needed to be this way but the adults in the room have chosen to look the other way. Good for Dabo, but nothing is going to happen to OM and this is going on everywhere. We’ve gone from exploiting the kids from the money to exploiting them over the money. And before we get sore hands from applauding Dabo, didn’t he have a Taj Mahal facility built pre-NIL to recruit with? You can’t go to war and then decry losing the battle. Sausage making indeed.
Cold Blooded Sausage Making at that…
This is what college football has come to; making me agree with Dabo Swinney.
The slimiest part is that the agent refused to even show Dabo the offer unless Dabo countered with an equal or better deal. When a contract was already signed with Clemson. 🤦🏻♂️
This is the part I don’t get. If the contract was already executed, how in the hell is the player at another school without some kind of contractual penalty? Are Clemson’s attorneys that dense (or are they just South Carolina graduates)?
Could be that the $2M covered the buyout.
You still have to pay tax on that money paid to cover the buyout. I imagine the state of South Carolina is going to want their pound of flesh for that.
Amongst dishonest people, written contracts are merely invitations to further negotiations….
The time and expense of litigating a breach of contract matter in the year of our Lord 2026 is rarely worth it, even for contracts involving millions of dollars.
I hate the courts’ implementation of the transfer portal. The NCAA should have never built in any exceptions for a 2nd transfer.
This has truly turned into the Wild Wild West. You know thing have gotten WAY WAY out of hand when even a few DAWG fans agree with Dabo.
The NCAA is absolutely toothless to do anything about tampering even when it is blatantly overt
Players sign contracts than then immediately sign with another team. I’ve joked about it but would not really be surprised to see a player come out for the 2nd half of a game wearing the opposing team’s uniform, having transferred at half time (for more money of course).
Whatever the final product winds up being, there has to be SOME rules and some ability to enforce them. They are now PRO athletes so set it up like a pro league. They sign a contract and both sides have to abide or suffer penalties.
The STUDENT athlete is now just a myth. Can anyone recall the last time a player had to miss time due to academics for any team in any of the major sports? Maybe someone on the cross-country team had to sit out a meet.
The University Presidents should give up the losing fight, declare the athletes employees & initiate collective bargaining
We can stop this. We can quit watching and stop going to games. As much as they might all say they would t care because they are “gettin paid” their egos are way too big to play in front of half empty stadiums. We the fans have the power to put an end to this stupidity. But it won’t happen. People will complain and keep going back for more cause they gotta have it. As for me, I haven’t been to a game in several years and stopped letting football get in the way of my deer hunting about five years ago. People can stop letting the suits tea bag them but they won’t.
There are a couple of red lines that haven’t been crossed for me … yet.
Care to share what they are ? I was partially done this year but I think I’m officially done now. It’s just maddening but mostly just tiring! I’m too old to try and keep up
1) Athletes are no longer students … we’re really close to this one. Yes, an online student is a student.
2) A work stoppage initiated by either side after a CBA is in place
3) Dropping years of eligibility … essentially creating the possibility of the Crash Davis of college sports
We could stop it from ever getting there. I understand everybody has different deal breakers but we could save it if there was enough will to do it. To me it would be easy to adopt the transfer model Kirby proposed. Sign for one year or three. One year means you can transfer with no penalty but your roster spot also isnt guaranteed after that year. Three means you are guaranteed a roster spot but you can’t transfer until three years have elapsed. It’s too freaking easy and makes too much sense. And put an end to tampering. Period. If enough hell gets raised that can be brought to an end. Dabo could end up being part of what saves college football if he will scream loud enough and if people will support him and get on board and call Golding and the like out for this shit. Problem is too many coaches are doing it too so they can’t.
I definitely agree on the contract.
when i am in agreement with dabo dabo do, then something is very wrong with college football.
Good for Dabo. Not that the NCAA will do anything, they are now the most risk adversed organization in history. They just want to keep being paid their salaries and do absolutely nothing.
Can’t believe Bama played that guy last night; once the TRO is overturned, hopefully the NCAA will make them forfeit for using an ineligible player, maybe that will get everyone’s attention….
