Draft Dodgers

Carson Beck might have broken the mold for this. Get injured, see your potential draft valuation drop (if it existed at all), then tease that you’re declaring for the Draft…only to pull out of the Draft and allow the highest bidder to bring your services to a campus near you.

Here’s the gist of the article:

Can’t say I blame him. With only a year under his belt, and with half of that being questionable, at best, Simpson may well benefit from more than just another year’s payout.

The catch? He’s apparently already declared…so it remains to be seen if he can pull out of the Draft declaration or not. But, hey, that’s what attorneys are for, so I’m sure another precedent can be set…just this one will piss off the NFL more than CFB. I’m not sure that will work out well for draft dodgers when the time comes for them to try their hand at the pros.

  1. I know this isn’t really what this post is about but the new narrative around Beck that Herbie was bleating the other night about “all he has been through.” and how football is fun again is such a crock and ought to get Herbie kicked off the air. If anything, Kirby treated that dude with kid gloves and went too far protecting him from criticism. I mean he decided to go too far protecting California and cut off communication with his coaches, said he was going to the NFL, and then decided he was going to Miami. Their little sob story about him is nauseating.

    • Get ready for it to be all over the place on Monday night’s College GameDay. Since there will be no David Pollack or Ben Watson on the set, there will be no one to correct the record unless Kirby feeds information to Saban.

    • I’m happy for CB, but yeah, the “Carson is smiling again” bullshit was a bit much. He was something like 24-3 as a starter, part of 2 National Chamionships, SEC championships, elite program, but seemed (to me and most of the public) to have lost the support of the team. I chalk that up to a stoic personality and his very public outside activities (Lambo, private jets, Insta-girlfriend, etc.). When did the lad have time for the 7:50am STAT 300 class? The team rallied around Gunner when CB got hurt, and we didn’t publicly see CB supporting him on the sidelines, or really anywhere that I know of. He seemed to have checked out, said he was going to the NFL, then turned around and followed the hot chick to Miami for a lot of $$ (and a$$, I guess).

So forgive me dear Mickey, if I don’t shed a tear for Carson’s tortured past in Athens – cause it didn’t happen.

    • Speaking of Herbstreit, he needs to listen to Nance and Romo in the booth! Romo says a whole lot more by saying less!

  2. I thought a new rule was put in place recently that you can remove yourself from the draft process by a certain date, if you didn’t hire an NFL agent.

    • Seems the agent part wouldn’t matter anymore since they agents now for the college NIL deals. If he can’t recant going Pro that is ridiculous especially considering they just allowed a former NBA draft pick to come back to college to play basketball.

      • True, but the NFL has specific rules about qualified agents, so it is an important distinction in this regard.

  3. He ain’t that good, neither was bama. What team thinks Simpson can lift them to the CFP or is so good they just need to add a new QB? Oh yeah…the teams with ADs who sign ridiculous buyout deals.
