Thanks, But No Thanks

Take a page from the autobiography of your mentor, Nick, and just say no. Something tells me that the energy Kirby brings to practices wouldn’t be welcomed by the “pros”.

From the article:

I’m not sure the extra seven million would be worth it, imho. Unless, of course, he can bring Stetson Bennett on the roster and have the prototypical Kirby Smart field general under center instead of those millionaire first round draft picks.

Besides, Kirby clearly doesn’t like NIL so I can’t see him putting up with negotiations and hold outs very well at all.

  1. “Bloody tuesday? How about a bloody nose mf-er?”

    – Average NFL Player

I don’t think it would be a good fit.

Two different skill sets. That said, if I were a football coach whose talents and passions were equipped for either college or pro, I’d be in the league. Easy call these days.

  2. If you think getting BM to buy in was a major undertaking, try turning around an nfl franchise that’s known for screwing up since it was founded.

  3. Even Arthur Blank isn’t this dumb. He would have every Dawg fan season ticket holder tell him to take his PSL and stick it up his ass.

I can’t imagine the fallout if the Falcons attempted to hire Kirby (and it got out). If Kirby said yes, Flowery Branch would not be a good place to be. It would make the Oxford airport look tame.

    • Are you saying its a really really bad idea and that the Falcons would be both dumb and self-defeating if they did it?

      Suddenly I am very concerned….

    • I can definitely see Arthur Blank believing this is the way. Telling himself the local yokels will love me even more.

I’m counting on everyone in the Smart family to know just how stupid that idea is. Money is not their motivation at this point in life.

  4. The age of tough coaching in the NFL went away a long time ago. It’s the talent and Kirby would have a heart attack coaching the today’s pro football player.

  5. I don’t think $20m per year moves the needle. $25m+ for 10 years, guaranteed and a piece of the franchise with total control over draft, facilities, staffing, etc. might be a Mount Everest Kirby would be willing to climb. But not with Arthur Blank. I’d be worried if a new billionaire bought the Falcons. Generational wealth, total control and no recruiting 24/7 has to have some appeal. For those reasons, I don’t trust Steven Jones when daddy finally dies. Such a deal is far beyond anything a kid from Bainbridge, GA could have dreamed of and he’s earned the right to be offered it. Money may not be a motivator to Kirby, but true generational wealth is a decision that goes beyond the man into his legacy. If such an opportunity comes along I hope he takes it. We can name the stadium for him sooner and see how HC Mike Bobo works out!

    • I agree there’s no chance Arthur Blank gives anyone total control of his personal hobby horse. He loves meddling getting involved with the players. Being the head master in charge is uber important to him. He craves the attention ownership/being the boss proves him. All of that super cedes winning championships.

  6. Trying to untie the Gordian knot of Falcon football is a task that most of us will not have the time left to consider. That said, releasing the CEO was the first step in the right direction, IMO. He was the constant in 20 years of under performance.

  7. Arthur Blank will never have a successful team. He needs to go up and sit in his luxury sky box, keep his mouth shut, and let the coaches do their job. And stop meddling with the team. I wish he’d sell the Falcons. Dan Cathy?

    • If Blank really wants to win, he’d back a Brinks truck up to Sean McVey’s front door. Tell him it’s not moving until he signs. McVey is from Atlanta and I bet he would come home.

  8. I think we are forgetting what collectively the high net worth Georgia Boosters could do the HD stock. I just don’t even see this being attempted.

  9. Kirby doesn’t want his name associated with that train wreck. He leaves UGA he’s done coaching. How much money do you need anyway?

  10. I think Kirby is our coach until he’s done coaching.

And if he can just learn to hold his coaches to the same standard as his player, he wins at least 2-4 more nattys.

  11. Just think how much time Kirby would get back if he did do it. No year-round recruiting high school kids and your own roster. Hell, it would probably be a well-paid vacation for him.
