Let This Sink In

How different is college football nowadays? Consider this:

Georgia beat every team they played this season.

Also, Indiana and Ole Miss have a chance to be the champions of college football.

What a time to be alive.

  1. 1-7 that’s the record of teams with a bye after a 30 day layoff. That team last night was not the same team playing at seasons end.

The system is broken when you win your confidence and get placed at a now obvious disadvantage.

    • I secretly wanted the #5 but was afraid to say it. Said it out loud against my better judgment yesterday afternoon.

      See what happens?

  2. Disney TV executives with soccer mom loaded focus groups and Las Vegas sports books are ecstatic over the success of this “parity”. But when you lose tOSU, Notre Dame, and nearly all but 50,000 SEC fans in Mississippi you’re going to see ratings plummet. Any combination for the final game is a dud. ESPN and the coastal media will play up the IU story to the fullest…man I hope Oregon whips their ass, same for Miami over OM so there is just nothing left for anyone to get excited about.

We won the last meaningful National championships in grand fashion. Hope we remembered to turn off the lights on the way out.

    • Thinking long term maybe a new team winning it means fans of other teams will think they have a shot and start watching at rates like bammers, dawgs, buckeyes and domers?

It has been a pretty small number of teams that have had a shot lately. The playoffs and nil and the portal is spreading things out.

Some teams will master this format like the steelers and pats and other consistent winners do. There will also be a Cleveland or two.

The best thing about what I see?

No more finesse, mike leach style, soft as hell football. LOS football is back and that’s a great thing for America.

    • My thoughts exactly. The loudmouths at ESPN and the casual fan that doesn’t actually watch the games for what they finally wanted out of this sport. The regular season is dead, and it’s gonna be even deader next year when they expand even more to fix the stupid layoff problems. There will be multiple 3-loss teams in the field next year and that sucks for the sport. They’ve taken something that was unique in America and finally managed to turn it into every other sport out there. Excellence is no longer rewarded or valued (though I hope Indiana kicks the shit out of the next two opponents and makes both games complete snoozers and wins this thing since they’re the won team left that actually deserved to compete for a national title.

  3. Hate to say it, but parity has come to CFB. Indiana is legit. I thought last year may have been a fluke, but they abused Alabama.

The SEC overall is down this year. Lost almost all our bowl games and the only playoff wins are against other SEC teams. Gone are the days of stockpiling talent.

At least Ole Miss saved us from the ignominy of losing to Beck and Miami in front of clowns like Michael Irvin and murder Ray Lewis.

    • I’m with you on Irvin.

I thought Ray got a raw deal. Seems like a good dude to me. Like the way he approached the game as well.

Irvin does seem to be quite the jackass.

Frankly, I liked the match up vs Miami. Beck doesn’t seem to have a lot to work with.
