Having grown up in Northwest Georgia I learned to hate The Vowels and Rocky Top at a very early age! This hate has grown to the point that I want to puke whenever I hear that God forsaken tune

A few years ago my two sons, my brother, two nephews and I were backpacking a part of the AT in the Smokies where one of the peaks is called Rocky Top. All six of us were privileged to take a piss on Rocky Top!!!
Some years ago when one of my daughters was a UGA grad student in music she played clarinet with a group, mostly on weekends. Some were grad students. All were UGA music grads. A good many were band directors. All of them were Dawgs who got together to pick up extra money playing these gigs. It not unusual for them to walk into a gig and get handed a piece of sheet music the event sponsors wanted played. No problem since they were all really good sight readers.
They put the new music on the stand and begin to play. The title had something to do with college spirit. As they are playing, my daughter notices people were dropping out. She begins to listen to the melody and it’s Rocky Top. By that time everyone had stopped playing. Good Dawgs do not have anything to with Rocky Top. Not ever!
