Well this is a hell of a stat.
Considering all the accomplishments – three SEC Championships, two National Championships, and countless winning streaks against rival opponents – this one is very impressive as we are a little over halfway through the decade.
And this year’s team has a LOT of returning talent. Kirby’s on the mother…let’s just hope Josh Brooks is on Kirby’s contract mother, too.
Let’s not get carried away just yet. I remember reading similar memes in the early 80’s. We didn’t go off a cliff after Ole No. 34 left, but we kinda slid down the boards of those “team of the decade” rankings.
Just another wow reminder to some of our fanbase that’s not getting all of the possible enjoyment out of what is happening right now.
As long as we can say Kirby is on the muther. There couldn’t be a more solid bottom under our feet.
that’s what she said
The 1984 recruiting class signed some great hs players, only some or even few contributed in college. Turned out not to be so great.
Boise St in the 2000s surprises me. I just don’t remember them being some dominant team.
They dominated their competition and rarely played outside of their league (due mainly because people wouldn’t schedule them). We were 1-1 against them and they did beat OU in the bowl game one year. They were probably a top 10 team, but not sure how they would’ve held up with season long beatings in a major conference.
Naming them the winningest team of the 2000’s is sort of like naming BYU national champion in 1984, or Tech in 1990. It’s technically true, but there were a lot of asterisks involved.
Let’s be clear on a GTPR rule: tech did not win the natty in 1990, it was Colorado. All my neighbors out here agree.
Flashback to 1990 season: ND should have beaten Colorado in the 1991 Orange Bowl when Rocket Ismail returned a punt 92 yards with less than a minute left, but they were called for clipping (it was a horrible call by the refs). Buffs held on for a 10-9 victory and the rest is history.
So, we got the double-shadenboner of ND losing a huge game on a shitty call, PLUS Colorado winning to prevent Tech from claiming a unanimous national title. God help me, I used to love college football so…
While that contract thing is important, I’d be shocked if Kirby even thought about leaving for money. He’s where he wants to be. I don’t think there’s anyplace else.
The men’s grill at ACC…
If the NCAA doesn’t get it’s shit in one sock soon, this could be where Kirby is headed, for good!
Nah! Looks to me that even if he doesn’t like it, he’s figured out how to succeed in this environment without whoring out to the money grabbers.
4 of those teams played nobody, beat nobody tough except in bowl games.
“MOST-WINNINGEST”?
Roll Tide/War Eagle.
Written by someone who thought there may be surviving members of Alabama’s 1926 team (youngest would be 109 years old) who would be healthy enough to travel to Pasadena and be honored on the sidelines.
“Most Winningest” is just bad writing. Scratch the word Most
Halfway to history
93% (rounded up) is stout, but it’s not even a full 5 years, much less 10 years. If Kirby can get that for 5 more years, he will have been better than Saban especially considering the challenges of coaching these days.
