Geez, ACC.
And in case you were wondering, the B1G topped them all:
Conference championship weekend brought plenty of storylines. Teams completed their College Football Playoff resumes, and the Big Ten emerged as the big TV ratings winner of the weekend.
An average of 18.3 million people tuned to FOX as Indiana took down Ohio State at Lucas Oil Stadium. That made it the most-watched game of conference championship weekend, and FOX said it’s also the most-watched Big Ten Championship on record, peaking at 19.99 million viewers.
Alabama and Georgia were two of the most-watched teams all season long, possibly because of hate-watching. With that being said, one has to wonder how much of the same was going on with the B1G Championship…outside of Florida and Tennessee, tOSU has one of the most insufferable fanbases that is really easy to hate. I also wonder how many SEC fans were tuning in to the game to see who they might play in the CFP, given that five SEC teams made the CFP final 12.
My ears are still ringing from listening to Joel Klatt and Gus Johnson, the worst of which was Gus and his constant goofy caterwauling and the Fox broadcast team’s music selections heading in to the commercial breaks, which was borderline insulting sometimes, yet also oddly satisfying.
Anyone who makes you miss Gary Danielson needs to be studied.
My limited viewing of the B1GCG reminded me of Lewis Grizzard’s take on Big 10 football … 2 mules fighting over a turnip.
Indiana got lucky. Ohio State was not impressive.
Both of them lose to the Georgia team that showed up in the Benz on Saturday.
Agreed. And my takeaway was that it was a matchup of the two most overrated quarterbacks in college football. Between Mendoza’s ugly crying and Julian Sayin not doing much with the most talented surrounding cast in the country, it was something. But it definitely wasn’t entertaining.
I am sorry, but I do miss Gary
But I miss Uncle Verne more…
Me too…and Keith Jackson even more.
100 for Keith Jackson.
Pride of Roopville, GA.
He was one of the most perfect PbP announcers ever .. plus my Dad had significant resemblance to Keith. I miss my Dad as well.
i look forward to see what happens when those glass jawed big 10 teams get punched in the mouth during the playoffs… i predict they will ring the bell
I cant wait. To be honest, I was a little worried about OSU until I saw the championship game.
Maybe I am wrong, but at I think at least a part of the B1G ratings is the prime time slot.
The SEC has blown the doors on the B1G’s game for years. The 1 vs. 2 match-up definitely inflated the viewership this year.
Dang. I would have found a highjacked stream of the game somewhere if I had thought that actually watching that game would have helped their viewership totals. Those defenses did not impress me.
Did anyone else notice the stadium was playing “Take me home, country roads” DURING the BigTeleventeen game? WT actual F? Neither team has anything to do with West Virginia or John Denver, and that’s certainly not a stadium anthem designed to fire up a crowd.
That said, Gus Johnson is hilarious to me. He has to know he’s doing a schtick at this point.
Joe Tessitore is calling a big wrestling event on the 4 letter. I believe he has found his calling. He and Greg McElroy are automatic mutes at my house. Palmer is not much better.
Jesse Palmer is doing some type of “I’m a slightly smarter Pepper Brooks” act. I’m waiting for him to confidently state that having a punt blocked is a bold strategy, let’s see if it works out for them..
Seriously. Tessitore makes every play sound like it is the NC/Super Bowl/World Series winner. I mean stop screaming dude. Chris Fowler ain’t much better. Oh for Uncle Vern, Keith Jackson and Al Michaels….
I will take Tessitore every day of the week and twice on Sunday over Gus Johnson (officially the worst all time). I watched the sky cast of our game just to avoid the gasbag herbstreit. Had the big 10 on but just background noise and casual interest. Neither team was impressive. OSU underperformed and wondering if Hartline’s move to ucf was an issue.
Give me Vern, or Ron Franklin and I will listen to them describe paint drying.
The idiot on the b1g broadcast literally screamed about a 5 yard quick out that hit the receiver right in the hands. “What a catch!!!!” I had to rewatch to make sure he was seeing what I was seeing. He was. Sad.
I don’t normally care that much who is calling a game, but that main FOX team is distractingly awful. Constantly yelling at the viewers and making it sound like every play is the most awesome thing the most awesome team (almost always OSU) has ever done. Blame ESPN for pro-SEC bias if you want, but FOX is straight up propaganda for the B1G.
Duke/Virginia got 3.9 mil? Notre Dame barely beats that. I’ve heard a lot of criticism about Nascar. Does anybody even watch NBC for any kind of sports. I’m not married so I escape the Olympic Coverage. ND thinking they’re gonna ride NBC money and eyeballs might be more delusional than even we think.
I think Nascar is on NBC, but might be wrong
Half of NASCAR season, Golf, NBA, WNBA, French Open, Indycar
I find Sean McDonough extremely boring.
I can’t really name any broadcasters I like. Even Chuck Doodle gets on my nerves listening the roundball Dawgs games. And Scott Howard would be better if he didn’t scream.
And that Bulldog Brunch show on Sundays is more of an infomercial for that restaurant in Athens. They barely talk about the game because they keep talking about bacon wrapped shrimp and red mule gravy.
Appropos of nothing, one of my favotire stories from years ago was my wife worked for a CPA firm in ATL in the mid-90’s. One day, Chuck Dowdle and his then wife were in the conference room, apparently sorting out finances due to their impending divorce. My wife says there’s some yelling, then the door flies open and the (I assume) now ex-wife storms out, stops in the middle of the office of 20+ accountants and turns around and yells “FUCK YOU, CHUCK! FUCK! YOU!” and leaves.
Whenever we see somebody acting a bit unhinged, “FUCK YOU, CHUCK!” has been our go-to phrase for 30 years now…
18 million had to endure Gus Johnson? Oh the humanity.
I think that I’d be one happy camper if all broadcasts were the SkyCast broadcast. I love watching the game without the overpaid announcers. I would rather see the sideline view vs behind the QB though as that is my only complaint as it would THEN feel more like being at the actual game.
