The latest CFP rankings dropped last night, and, as expected, Georgia moves up to #4.

Hey, if we win it all and squeak up to #3, we could be playing Carson Beck or Lane Kiffin again, huh?
If all remained the same in about two months, how do you like Georgia’s chances against Texas Tech or Tulane?
Update:
So if Georgia gets an SECCG bye and Alabama and Texas A&M go at it, instead, the likelihood of a double bye is lower…given the movement at the top and likely seeding the Big XII champ higher, Georgia would be #5 and hosting a Group of 5 team…maybe another home game in Sanford?
If we win the SEC then we will be 2 behind OSU or Indiana. That side of the bracket would look different as I assume that one of the top 4 would go to 5 and maybe the sand Aggies would be at 4.
I hope we get to the SEC Championship and play Bama and beat them. Any result after that game would just be icing on the cake for me.
Yeah, it seems like Bama has a path in this bracket
I agree with you. I don’t fear anyone with Kirby but I would like to play Indiana or that side of the bracket and get OSU in the Championship game.
This is great! The chances of Tulane beating Texas Tech are likely slim, but my Grandfather was dyed in the wool LSU. He went to LSU after the war on the GI Bill and back in the day Tulane was a mortal enemy. I remember him hating on Tulane Spurrier style when I was a kid!! I know the SECCG is important, but just this once let the fates collide and our beloved Junkyard Dawgs get ahold of Pete and the Pelicans. Let the feathers fly! C’mon, do it for Clarence!
God, please bring the DAWGS to the Cotton Bowl (Jerry World).
I just thought of the hilarious possibility of the Dawgs playing a Kiffin-less Ol Miss in the SECCG
OK. So looks like we most likely wind up in a quarterfinal game. Cotton, Rose, Sugar or Orange. Does anyone know what seeds go where? And where would we rather play? I would think Sugar or Orange would be the better for us. Thoughts?
Per CBSSports seeds 1-4 are Rose, Sugar, Orange and Cotton, respectively.
Per the CFP website:
The CFP selection committee will assign the four highest-ranked schools to Playoff Quarterfinals hosted by bowls. This will be done in consideration of historic bowl relationships, then in consideration of rankings.
I think in the hypo bracket from last night, we’d still end up in the Sugar Bowl. They would salivate over OSU in the Rose Bowl. Indiana would probably be place in the Orange, particularly if their opponent is Alabama because they’re not going to give the 2 seed that game in a disadvantageous Sugar Bowl location. A&M would jump at the Cotton Bowl, leaving us with the Sugar.
So, in this scenario, we’re not playing in a game from Thanksgiving to New Years? That’s BORING! Now I’m really rooting for Bama to go down to WarPlainTigers.
Just root for Texas to beat the Aggies.
If we win out & if SOS has any meaning at all, no f—-‘ way, we are dropped to 5th.
Still want to skip the SEC CHAMPIONSHIP game.
The love for ND is sickening.
It’s making me defend Alabama..(dammit) who has the same record but with a hell of a more impressive strength of schedule.
The SEC is getting screwed by lesser leagues and programs because the CFP is about spreading the thing out according to television benefits.
If our Dawgs get a double bye and win it all, does the CFP committee change the rules again? “Conference champs get a 1st round bye” lasted exactly one season.
No. Admittedly, the ‘rules’ were never intended to be fixed because from the beginning we all knew this would create some head scratching when odd results happened. But high seed are supposed to win, so it wouldn’t be a head scratching result if the Dawgs got a double bye and won it all. Actually it would support the process.

I feel pretty confident that unless Ohio State blows out Indiana, if everyone wins out, we will probably slip to 5 so they can give “conference champion” Texas Tech the bye.
Yep .. it will be the 13th data point argument. TT would have one and we would not.
If Texas Tech passes Georgia after beating absolutely no one, we have our answer for how stupid the CFP committee is.
You got that right. If they flip TT to 4 and UGA to 5 the committee is setting them up to be the Cinderella for this season and I expect after a glorified scrimmage with Tulane UGA will Gobble TT up Florida State style. Yeesh.
I guess it doesn’t matter since 4 plays 5 at a neutral site, and perhaps a tune-up game against Tulane at home would help after a long rest.
Apologies for the run on sentences but, yeah.
