Wednesday Wondering: Reflecting Beck

A word from Mr. Beck.

So, I’ll throw it out there…do you think the offense looks any different if Beck was back? Would Beck have flourished with the receiving options available this year, or just been same song second verse with a evolving offensive line in front of him?

  1. Same guy calling plays. Same slow starts. But we will continue to blame Kirby for a loss when the opposing teams score 24 points. If Kirby can recruit the 85 bears every year, Bobo can win with 3-0 nothing scores like he dreams about.

      • Weakest schedule in years. Played a real team in the SEC and got beat. A Bobo signature.

          • Come up with an original thought. You explain it. Put yourself out there, coward

        • Just trying to have your back.

Regale us with tales of the zero first half 3 and outs up in Indy and how Monken used his prep time to cut and dice the bammer defense up from the very first snap!!

To underscore your bobo hate fest we really need to be reminded of the contrast. Otherwise it just kinda seems misguided, lazy and lacking in credibility. I’d hate that for you even more than you hate bobo and the poor football acumen which put bobo in that position in the first place, with all sincerity.

          • ?
            Grow up.

            You troll others.

            You’re sarcastic.

            You’re insincere.

You don’t add anything of value to this message board.

You’re the Charlie Kirk of posters: you go around dunking on everyone thinking you’re better than people, hiding behind a thin veil of “superior informedness” to credentialize your self-appointed privilege to be a conceited jerk.

I’m sure however you sleep just fine at night. Those that sleep alone never lack for pillows to hug.

          • And by the way, to the mods, the most recent Anonymous comment, which came from me, is a different person than the Anonymous comments at the top. It’s clear many are frustrated with Derek’s singular bullying around here.

Maybe comments should be disabled for all of the folks, especially if posters like Derek insist on engaging confrontationally with other posters uninterested in his negative provocations.

Maybe we *should* ban Anonymous posting. It can’t dampen reader engagement any further than the turn-off already caused by Derek’s incessant posting, right?

  2. Class act. I think he would have benefitted greatly from our much-improved receiver corps and revived rushing attack. The OL would still be a problem for him just like it is for Gunner.

  3. I know reasonable people can disagree about the DGD designation. But no one should ever question how much Carson Beck gave/committed to UGA. 5 years, waited his turn, left it all on the field. Nothing but love and respect here! — MechanicsvilleDawg

  4. Well, in 2023, the receivers caught his passes. In 2024, they didn’t, for whatever reason. At Miami, they seem to be catching his passes. Who knows?

Team chemistry seemed to be off last season. My completely ignorant guess is that Beck had been in the system for 5 years and he had grown numb to Kirby’s yelling/motivational techniques, and that filtered out to the team. Just a wild ass guess, and nothing more. I’m happy to see him have success at Miami, as long as it doesn’t impact us.

  5. Carson played hard for us. He also did not play to his potential consistently last year.

Up until his injury in the SECCG, he did not play well in that game. Who knows if the light would have come on in the 2nd half?

He acted like he didn’t want to be with the team in New Orleans (for whatever reason).

He graduated and completed his commitment to UGA … that to me is worthy of DGD status.

  6. Remove the name and any personal bias. A veteran starter in year 6 with our program with his level of talent is a better choice…but that ship sailed and does no good to even contemplate the question.

    • He had declared for the draft and then decided to withdraw his name. I assume he (or his representative) was asking for a similar NIL package to what he had received in the prior year (or more), and Kirby said no.

  7. Better IF the budget was unlimited.

I think that if Beck came back we would not have been able to afford some of the other groceries we bought.

I don’t think Kirby was ready to pay him the same or give him a raise. My guess is that the plan had been that Beck was going pro and they planned accordingly.

Then he gets hurt, his prep for the draft is compromised and Miami is offering a bag Kirby can’t/won’t match.

I have heard people say Beck is bad or that Stockton is better or whatever. Those people are fools, as are far too many football fans.

Beck is a damn good qb. He’ll be the first entrenched Sunday starter (who does well) that we’ve had since Stafford. And before that…Fran Tarkenton. That’s some kinda gap… (Zeier and Matt Robinson started a few, but not many. The rest have been quickly cast aside. Still hope for Bennett, maybe….)

Because I am fan of a rtdb and win the LOS style of ball, I hoped (and still hope) that the switch can pay off in the end.

We won’t get better qb play, but we might become a more of a championship caliber team by the time its over.

An issue with playing a small ball style of football is that when you play an equally talented team , you can’t afford to make mistakes.

Every play matters, a lot. We just had too many bad fuck ups from some young guys.

Keep chopping, gain some confidence and make fucking ball plays. And never, ever fumble my football!!

  8. I’ve noticed a marked difference in Beck’s public persona this year as he just seems to have more joy coupled with what appears to be a sense of relief to be in his new environment.

As someone stated above; I believe he was just burned out in Athens & needed a change. Think he may have been a difficult social fit in a town like Athens as well.

Between pressing in some games last year, some awkward social media gaffs & Kirby not willing to match his number, I lost zero sleep about him transferring. After seeing this statement, I feel better about his departure & wish him well in his future pursuits. Not quite DGD to me, but a decent young man.

    • I’d still contend that him breaking up with the Insta-chick was addition by subtraction. He seemed to be a bit more level-headed before and after his time in her social media spotlight.

      • Yeah, you’re already a public figure in sports and someone is dragging you into the TikTok cute culture and I imagine that was exhausting. Seems like the additional attention was a real drag. Not to mention the twins really tried to gaslight him via socials after the breakup, and I’m imagining that little fiasco while rehabbing made him a little mentally tougher.

    • Yeah I think as much as anything Beck just didn’t fit in all that well at Georgia. Nothing wrong with that. It happens. I have never bought the narrative that his teammates didn’t like him and were resentful of him etc. That’s just chatter created by the people who obsessed over the car he drove. I think he just didn’t fit. Things are better for him and Gunner seems to be a better fit so everybody is in a better situation.

      • Not sure I agree with you. He was an excellent teammate in 23. If he has a healthy Brock and Ladd the entire season, who knows what happens. Alas, he didn’t.

Getting the Lambo was a dumb move for many reasons and the look with fans at the top of the list. I didn’t care, but a lot of people seemed to.

    • I blame the Cavinder chick. Now that she’s out, he seems to be more focused on football duties.

  9. Not much. When Beck got popped the first time against Florida the offense didn’t do much until late when FU defense was gassed. Beck is a head case.

  10. No, our O is no different under Gunner than it was under Beck. Silly question.

CMB calls the same plays as he did under CMR, and when he was at CSU, scu and aubie. The QB’s skills are not part of his equation. And Cash Jones is the latest version of Carlton Thomas/Tyson Browning.

  11. Hard to say. He’s a better thrower than Gunner, but not by a lot. Gunner can run better, but sometimes he runs too much. I’m 100% sure he’d like these weapons more than the ones from last year though.
