This would signal a step in the right direction, at least…
I don’t care what it takes, we need Pittman back in Athens. And if he could make that happen, get Boom back on the sidelines, too. Schumann is quickly making Bobo look elite.
Just my humble opinion.
While I agree with the sentiment, we need to stop looking at the past and start looking at the future. Find the young hot shot coaches out there and bring them into the program. Get the old guys in as analysts and nothing more.
This.
Nick Saban sustained greatness because he went out and found young Kirby Smarts.
Though he was great at rehabbing former HCs who still had a lot to give as OCs/position coaches/consultants.
I would much prefer to have Pittman as an Offensive Analyst than Phil Rauscher.
I absolutely want Sam Pittman back. Boom aint coming back to be DC so whatever needs to happen there outside Boom needs to happen.
I spect he’ll be fishin!
63 years old. Multiple millions in the bank. Were I in his place I know I would be fishin’. He worked hard to become successful now would be the time to enjoy the fruits of that success without the pressure and scrutiny associated with college football.
His contract requires him to seek work to offset the buyout
If that’s the case, $50k a year to be an analyst at UGA seems like a great fit 😀
Hogs names Bobby Petrino interim
Did they pat him down to make sure he didn’t have any motorcycle keys on him?
Man I can’t believe they’d do that again. They deserve whatever they get with him.
Exactly. With Pittman as coach, Arkansas was my second favorite SEC team (behind the Dawgs, of course) and I road tripped to a Georgia game in Fayetteville in 2004 (great experience all the way around). With former Falcons coach Petrino, I would probably pull for the booger eating ditch lizards when they play the Hogs.
Off topic but is your avatar your new dog?
I’ve heard him say this is his last stop. He and his wife love it there.
Firing Bobo would do more than opening a spot for a new OC. It would send a clear message to all the other coaches that being a buddy or past performance will not keep you on the coaching staff.
My little dose of realism here – getting back the old gang isn’t going to solve our problem, which is that we’re good in spots but we aren’t consistently good. We shut Alabama out for the last 30 minutes, why not more in the first 30 minutes? The defense in particular seems inconsistent.
We virtually doubled up Bama in rushing – how much more manball could Pitt Boss bring even if he were inclined to do so? We scored 24 points (you know what I mean there – we were choosing to be gracious to the visiting and not take the chip shot kick for 3). And this team is hell in OT, partly because we’re better conditioned that most other opponents.
The bad decisions that were made were ones that seemed like riverboat gambler ones made in desperation, and they ended up with bad results. We didn’t used to do that. At one time we had stat geeks that seemed to know odds of success for a particular decision – did we just quit using that? Did the analysts say that running Cash Jones was a winning play in the situation?
Is our inconsistency a product of portal transfers and a lack of team mentality? Wouldn’t Alabama have the same issue? This isn’t a bad team; it’s just not playing with consistency. I hope they iron some of the wrinkles out because it doesn’t get easier. Even Miss State is a threat if we don’t.
Agree, offense is not our problem
Ain’t the solution either or we would just light up the scoreboard and play shootouts.
I suspect Pittman is done with coaching. Great personality, probably will get media opportunities if he wants it. I understand the impulse to get CSP back to the Classic City, but I can’t see that happening.
Defense shuts out Bama in the second half, holds them to 24, and its the defenses fault? If we cant score 25 or more, welcome back to 8-4, 7-5. We need offense asap! Pittmans done probably. We need POINTS !
The score flatters the defense – Bama went through our defense like shit through a tin horn on all but one of the drives in the first half. The drive right before halftime was atrocious – they flew down the field with no timeouts and got 7. And don’t forget, their kicker was so bad he missed a pretty makeable (80%ish) field goal that kept them at zero in the second half….
The offense was moving the ball in the second half and the 4th quarter. After the stop on 4th down, the D couldn’t get a stop. No 3 and out, not even a 6 and out.
I’m not saying the offense was lights out. But the defense couldn’t respond and hunker down.
