Wednesday Wonderings: Hate to Admit They’re Right

I believe I’ve said this same thing about Archduke Manning before, but it sounded pretty succinct and to the point from none other that SOS:

We recently opined on the nemesis that is Spurrier in last week’s posts, but this is more of a question for Wednesday Wonderings:

What was the most significant time you had to go back and admit someone was right about something involving you or your thoughts? Was it a friend or an enemy, and which stings the most?

My first thought involves my first wife. Hate to say my mom and dad were right about that vampire of money and soul, though it worked out for the better in the end. Still stings though.

How about you?

  1. “vampire of money and soul”…lol. That was good for an early morning chuckle, but I am sure it was not funny at the time.

      • Why do married men die younger than unmarried men? They fucking want to.

      • Sixty years ago Woody Allen was a stand-up comic. He had a short routine about his marriage. The joke went something like this, “We figured we could afford either a cruise or a divorce. We decided that a cruise is over in a week but a divorce lasts forever so we got a divorce.”

  2. After the secc debacle loss to bama, I have to admit I lost all confidence in SBIV. Other commenters here who remained steadfast in their support can take a victory lap.

    • I didn’t have confidence he could beat bama and for 110 of 120 minutes I was right.

      • Well, if you’re counting minutes we led, you need to give Stet credit for putting us up on Bama twice, once at Bama, and once in the SEC CG, before we lost those game.

        • The 110 minutes are:

60 at the 2021 seccg and the first 50 minutes of the natty in Indy.

He and the offense, save Bowers, were pretty ineffectual vs them until after the pass/fumble early in the 4th q.

          • Stetson led 24-17 with 4 minutes left in the 3rd at Bama in 2020.

He staked us to a 10-0 lead in the 2nd quarter of the 2021 SECCG.

Starting at 3 minutes left in the first half of the NCG, he outscored Bama 23-9 (Ringo got the other 7).

I’m just saying if you’re going to count minutes, count ALL the minutes.

        • Blowing leads doesn’t equal winning. Fromm had leads vs. bama as well. All ended with L’s. That was due mainly to the fact that scoring in the second half was near non-existent. That didn’t change until about 10 minutes remaining in Indy.

      • One thing I was certain of was we would t get an “I was wrong.” out of old hog boy. I was right.😆

        • A whopping three comments in the hog pen today and one of them
          Is yours.😆😆😆

  3. For some there is an instinct to reject family observations about stuff only to realize years later they were correct. This has happened to me on the giving and receiving end of this dynamic. All I know about Arch is he looked like a deer in headlights when we got after that azz..

  4. God I have hated the Ol Ball Sack in the 90,s and while he was at USCjr, but sometimes that man says things that are downright mean…..and probably right.

    • Lately, the old ball sack has backed away from UGA football conversation, fuck that guy today, tomorrow and next week, he is an asshole to his core beliefs…ohhhh, he’s the yell leader ambassador for FU, big fucking deal…mine Bulldog soul wants/needs UGA football to hang a very serious half a hundred on that shithole score board in hogtown and leave town with FU begging to never invite UGA football back….EVAH!!….#FTMF!!

  5. If you don’t wake up around 30 years old and realize that nearly everything you’d been taught, told or thought was bullshit, then you’re doing it wrong.

    • So you weren’t a fuckin idiot and creepy little weirdo before you turned thirty? Interesting. I bet your parents were good folks, hog boy. I bet it killed them to see you shit on everything they ever taught you once you turned thirty.

      • No, I stayed a fucking idiot and creepy little weirdo. Just a tad wiser one.

I’m very sorry about the circumstances which must have led to your projection regarding parentage.

        Ugly stuff. I suggest counseling.

        • Hey it was you who said if you didn’t reject everything you were taught before turning thirty you were doing it wrong. Having a mirror held up in front of you ducks, huh? Now you see what I see, hog boy.😆

          • “Reject” isn’t there. “Nearly” is.

            It wasn’t limited to “taught.”

“Told” and “thought” are there as well.

Not terribly surprised that you would read a famous quote like “an unexamined life is not worth living” and respond with snickers reminiscent of beavis and butthead after their first experience with weed. Some play chess. Some checkers. Some would lose to a chicken playing tic tac toe.

            Takes all kinds.

          • I might lose to a chicken. But I would never lose to you.😆

          • Boy howdy, I was away from this crowd for a while before discovering this place relatively recently, and I have to wonder what happened between y’all to account for such ugliness. Actually, cancel that, I don’t want to know. – PDawg30577

          • Even in the final post over at GTP which was basically the Senator’s memorial he couldn’t keep from taking shots at somebody and making it about him. Fuck that guy. I’ll never not make fun of his ass.

  6. Love to see Hatin’ Ass Spurrier turn his visor towards the Longhorns.

    • He ain’t wrong tho. I thought Ewers was given a little bit of a hard time, but if Arch is as awesome as projected then you have to conclude that Sark doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Either way, picking Texas is a leap of faith for one or both of them. Of course, so much comes down to:

      Who else?

Not a lot of sec teams look scary right now. But let’s see where we are in November.

I do like our schedule. If we’re hungry, we may ruin another season for the horns.

  7. Hopefully my wife never sees this post…she could fill an encyclopedia of “I told you so’s” on my sorry ass…but one of my biggest whiffs was buying an insurance company stock in the early 2000’s right when Google was going IPO…it was between both stocks and I went old and stodgy instead of tech…sunny beach 😵‍💫

  8. So Sark goes with the established starter all season instead of the Second Coming QB, and nobody in the media says much about it despite all of their fawning over Arch. Yet how many times has Kirby made that same decision and been utterly disemboweled by the media for not playing the Glory Boy?
