Easter Eggs

News dropped Sunday night about some portal editions for the 2025 Dawgs, some of which may have instant impact on some areas of need for the approaching year.

Branson Robinson’s power game never rematerialized in the 2024 campaign, but that’s not to say that Smart had a plan for him with Frazier in the backfield, and McCray fits well into that hole left with Robinson’s exit.

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound running back has excellent size and could help Georgia replace running back Branson Robinson, who entered the transfer portal this spring. McCray also has a solid track record of production.

As a junior, McCray posted 117 carries for 609 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns (tied for No. 9 in the Big Ten) in 2024. He also added 13 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown. McCray would be a good complement to Georgia’s projected starting running back Nate Frazier, who is shifty and elusive, but does not have McCray’s size.

Mood is an interesting story. Originally recruited as a receiver by Army, he put on 50 pounds in two years, and was the number 2 player in the portal behind Nico Iamaleavingknoxville:

Modozie — who’s gone from a 6-foot-3, 195-pound high school receiver to a 245-pound edge rusher with two remaining seasons of eligibility — emerged among the Group of Five’s most impactful pass rushers last year. He ended the 2024 season with 34 tackles (eight for loss) and 6 1/2 sacks. His 37 pressures were fifth in the AAC, according to PFF, in just 236 pass-rush snaps.

Horton has the fewest snaps among the three transfers, but at 295 brings the size and strength necessary to fill a hole or two as a Bulldawg.

I still wished we’d seen an offensive tackle arise from the spring portal, but I’ll continue to trust that Smart is on the mother.

  1. Does anyone know where we stand compared to the 85 scholarship limit (I think that’s an SEC requirement) and the 105 total per the current House settlement? I assume Kirby has it under control, but I’m expecting some transfer portal outs this week.

    • I feel like portal-exit news has been quiet since the spring game, other than Branson of course.
