Movie Palate Cleanser – The Slow Clap

RIP, Gene Hackman.

Gene Hackman, the prolific Oscar-winning actor whose studied portraits ranged from reluctant heroes to conniving villains and made him one of the industry’s most respected and honored performers, has been found dead along with his wife at their home. He was 95.

Trying something different here from the Musical Palate Cleanser, but here’s a scene from a great sports movie, Hoosiers.

Great actor and great career. Aside from Hoosiers, I loved The French Connection and Unforgiven, and forgot he had a brief cameo in one of the all time greatest comedies, Young Frankenstein.

Oooh, sweet mystery of life at last I’ve found youuuuuu…a surprisingly diverse and remarkable career, he’ll be missed.

  1. I first saw him in Bonnie and Clyde, playing Clyde’s brother Buck. What a cast that turned out to be.

  2. Growing up, the three people I wanted to see on screen the most were Burt, Gene, and Madeline Kahn. Young Frankenstein is still legendary.

  3. I read that the reason that his scene in “Young Frankenstein” ended so abruptly is because his last line was an adlib it cracked up the entire crew. They had to cut the scene quickly so you couldn’t hear them all laughing.
