Who can forget this:
Apparently, the guy who delivered the hit will remember Stockton’s miracle ability to hold on.
Mukuba was asked about the hit during his media session at the NFL Combine.
“Yeah, I was a little surprised,” Mukuba said. “The situation we were in, all I was trying to do was get the ball by any means as possible.”
The hit was brutal.
But somehow, Stockton held onto the ball and wobbled to his feet before Carson Beck came in and handed off to Trevor Etienne, who scored the touchdown to give Georgia the SEC Championship.
“I was just thinking … just hit him as hard as I can to where the ball comes out,” Mukuba said. “If the ball had come out, then that would have been a win for us. But, you know, shout out to him. He was able to get up, bounce it off, and he was good.”
The win was Georgia’s second over the Longhorns in many games.
Mukuba said he was impressed with what he saw.
“That was a good team. Obviously, every time they showed up to play us, they definitely showed up. They were well prepared,” Mukuba said. “It was a team full of good players all around from the D-line to the O-line to their receivers, the quarterback, running back, and their back end … that was a good team.”
Emphasis added.
While that might be complimentary sportsmanship language, if one were to read the message boards or social media around here sometimes, 2024 was a colossal failure with a talentless team.
It’s been a while since the Joe Cox days, hasn’t it?
When this team was fully healthy and available, they were one of the 4 best teams in the country. Starting with the hit on Mykel in the Clemson game, that slowly but surely became no longer the case.
Injuries and ball security doomed this team to being SEC champions and the #2 team in the country at the end of the regular season.
I’ll always quietly hope for bad things for Phil Mafa Mapha mafia whatever his name is. That hit on Mykel was dirty and it seemed like the injuries just snowballed from there.
I said this in ‘23 but it has amazed me how fast we became Alabama’s fan base. Don’t misunderstand me. There were things last year that have to be fixed. Problems on the offensive line, receivers that can’t hold onto the ball, a less than dominant interior defensive line. But man if we win the SEC and make the playoffs it’s hard for me to feel too bad about that.
Personally I think as long as Bobo is OC there is a part of our fan base that isnt going to be happy and will complain loudly no matter what. The hatred for that guy is irrational. I’m not satisfied with the offense last year but Kirby has more than earned our trust and I’m able to realize our problems weren’t as simple as “Bobo sucks!”
You are so right, our fans have gone to we’re entitled to win. We got spoiled and don’t like losing and poor old Bob is the whipping post.
Well I don’t know who Bob but for his sake I hope you untie him soon. Dipshit.
I remember people in 2020 bitching about Todd Monken. The OC and the OL coach are only as good as the last game.
Funny how Monken became a genius after winning a NC. We had plenty of fans that wanted to still replace SBIV after the NC win. Winning creates entitlement losing emboldened the critics. Doubt that ever changes in fans.
I believe coach Monken was our best OC ever. To be fair he had talent way beyond anything Bobo had last season.
And a healthy one … no one should forget that Bowers and McConkey played injured in 2023. Saban even said after the SECCG that we were easier to defend because those 2 weren’t full speed.
