2025, The Year That Wasn’t

Remember this?

As it turns out, they are kind of the new Alabama, if by that you mean DeBoer’s Alabama. Kind of overhyped and disappointing.

Lo, it didn’t stop there. Also recall that 2025 was set to be the James Franklin breakout year.

He broke out alright. He broke out and headed to Blacksburg for a new job. But all was not lost, after all, as Penn State would come out victorious in their bowl game against another preseason favorite to go deep into the CFP, Clemson.

Welp, it was the Pinstripe Bowl, not the Sugar or Orange or anything. Cough.

Anyway, we ended the year on a sour note, but it’s safe to say we rose above expectations many of us had heading in to the year. With the expanded playoffs, it’s harder and harder to have the endurance and grit to push all the way to a Natty, so maybe expectations should be tempered, no? Let’s face it, at least we weren’t being lead by Brian Kelly or anything.

On that Irish connected note, what’s your takeaway on the biggest disappointment of the 2025 season? Was it a team, like an Oregon or LSU, who didn’t rise to the occasion? Was it the SEC face plant to end the season?

One thing that’s never disappointing is seeing stuff like this:

Let’s hear it. And what would you like to see more or less of in 2026?

    • In 2026, let’s have less of Mickey’s invitational tournament B.S. (looking at you cfp committee), one less UGA football “L” in this upcoming schedule and less injuries to any and all student athletes/staff related to UGA football…GO DAWGS!!

    • Well, anything could have happened, but I wouldn’t have liked our chances. Can’t believe people are still doubting what Indiana did these past 2 years.

I’d rather see them next season when our our young Dawgs are seasoned and healthy.

  1. Perhaps the worst thing is how awful these sport writers and so called analyst got it wrong this year ( and most every year). They’re worse than a South Georgia weatherman, excuse me, weather person, forecasting the weather. Aren’t they all supposed to be the GURU of college football. I mean all the tape they watch in the off season, practices they attend, yeah right.

    • To be a sportswriter, it seems, means to have unmitigated time on your hands and a means to write and post online. Those are the sole requisites. Hand to God, as someone who spends evenings looking through content for this site, for every one thought that’s out there there are at least 20 other people regurgitating the same idea. Once one outlet posts it, it gets laundered and spit out with a different graphic. In other words, it’s a horrible game of grapevine, where one person hears it and passes it along down the line.

That said, there are very few people out there who seem to have a sensible, knowledgeable idea about the game itself, and most everything else is performative nonsense used for clicks and engagement farming. No matter how much one of them projects as a “ball knower”, they really know nothing. The folks who do know something are getting paid handsomely to be quiet and let Vegas lines do the talking. Those are the real experts who control the game.

  2. I feel like we overachieved, won the SEC championship, and still had a disappointing season. I know what makes that possible but I can’t believe I actually feel that way.

    • I was disappointed at the end but overall we did over achieve. Offense saved our fannies at Tennessee and defense saved our fannies at Auburn. We did get better as the season progressed but it was a rebuilding year, and we still defended our SEC championship. Next season, we’ll be world beaters.

  3. Winning an SEC championship by beating bama in Atlanta is a good season.

Biggest miss – all the hype around Sellers and Lagway. Both are freak athletes shoehorned into the QB position. AR15 all over again.

  4. I’ll take SEC Championships every year. I’d like to see the next wave of lawsuits finally bury the NCAA and force the presidents and commissioners into accepting a new structure with the dark, sinister hand of Disney manipulating the creation of a new entity with Satan himself (Saban of course) as commissioner. Scared by the financial losses of the lawsuits full powers would be granted to Nicky. Then at least some law & order can come into place. The game is going to Hell anyway so may as well do it right.

  5. I think the biggest disappointment has to go to Clemson. It must suck to be their fans right now. They had a talented, experienced roster and absolutely shit the bed. Even worse, their coach is stubborn, refuses to change, and he isn’t going anywhere either. The program is doomed I tells ya. Only question is how bad does it get.
