Thursday Thought Provoker: The Suckeyes Finally Drew the Short Straw

Looks like Ohio State’s actually going to have to play teams with a pulse in 2026. Below is a graphic that shows how many AP Top 25 P4 teams each team will face in the coming football season. Ohio State stands alone with half their schedule being formerly ranked teams.

Not surprisingly, the ACC is represented largely in the lower part of the graphic, with Virginia scheduled to face 0 Top 25 opponents on their 2026 slate.

That bears the question…is the SEC overrated nowadays, and is the ACC underrated? Given what happened in the postseason, with the ACC having the best win percentage among bowl games, is this a fair representation of their season ahead?

  1. The ACC did well in their bowl games only due to the fact that no one else wanted their players so their rosters stayed intact.

As for their soft schedules. Since they mostly play each other it’s not possible to get anything else. All hail the 7-5 conference champions the mighty Dukies.

  2. We know which team is the “1” under Tech’s logo. That means none of Tech’s 8(?) conference opponents are ranked.

  3. I do think the SEC is a bit overrated. Results over the past couple of years seem to indicate it, at least to me. But I don’t care. We’re back to back SEC champions.

  4. And just like that, the selection committee starts putting a high value on SOS.

  5. Postseason records mean absolutely nothing now. When you drop to the 6th best team in the SEC for the first bowl participant, that should tell you everything you need to know. By the way, I’m not saying 5 SEC teams deserved to be in the playoff.

I believe the SEC had the best overall record against the other Power 4 in the regular season. Once again, that should tell you everything you need to know.

  6. I mean, there were only 2 ranked teams for the ACC in the final poll…and Virginia is 1…so that really just means they’re not playing Miami. The ACC sucks, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t know that they 2-ranked-teams-only suck.
