Monday Shade

This time from a Longhorns beat writer:

Now some will say “Well Ewers missed 2 games and Beck started all 14 of Geogia’s.” Well, that is true, however, Beck wasn’t handed the reigns to Georgia’s offense until the 5th game of the season. So Beck’s numbers are also skewed by a lack of confidence by the coaching staff in the first-time starter.

If you read the article, which has some shaky reasoning, at best, it’s hard to see where the writer is attempting make his point. He could’ve referenced strength of schedule, for example, where Texas finished with the 7th strongest to Georgia’s 43rd.

To his own point, though, Beck was on a bit of a tether, which it seems was removed for the Kentucky game where Beck had a coming out party and was fully realized what he could do with a healthy offensive squad against Ole Miss. So if Beck really had been “given the reigns” from the jump, it’s safe to assume his article would have no point at all. Even the casual fan can look and see Beck’s potential and upside, from Kentucky forward save for the SECCG where the receiving corps were depleted and banged up, whereas Ewers had an embarrassment of riches to work with in a pass-happy and defensively challenged conference, which Ewers won’t enjoy in the coming season.

From the looks of their spring game, he might be more on point to wonder about Texas’s secondary, which looked more like passing skeletons against air. Hopefully Carson posts this in his locker and cherishes the trip to Austin just a little bit more.

  1. Is this burnt urnge kuntry’s attempt to overtake the barners in the annual “we have the heisman qb” this year or just their constant/continual complaining about ….whutever, WTF, if your qb is blah, blah, blah, let’s check on that in December, ’till then, see ya in october…GO DAWGS!!

    • As my A&M friends say…”you guys have no idea the amount of delusion you’re about to see”.

      • I live in the DFW area amongst the whiney T-sips. I unfortunately know firsthand the amount of delusion that’s about to be unleashed on the SEC….. It ain’t pretty. They have Bama’s arrogance without the hardware to back it up. They are “all hat and no cattle”, but they do have a lot of money. Dealing with them is like playing chess with a pigeon. The shit all over the board, knock over all the pieces and then strut around like they just accomplished something.

        • Was never a big fan of pigeon shit, to quote a well known american actor….”they deserve to die and I hope they burn in hell”….

  2. It’s pretty silly to compare Beck and Ewers because they’re both really good QBs. Beck is more consistent but less experienced and has a higher floor. Ewers has a higher ceiling (I’ve seen him make throws Beck hasn’t shown yet) but makes really dumb decisions and bad throws at times. I’ll take our guy 10/10.

    • Strong arms with border line decision making process makes for bad companions, fitting the football in a small window (per say) is one thing during the season, during the expanded cfp those windows do not expand, they only get smaller….thinking you can is one thing, knowing you can is a different window all together…GO DAWGS!!

  3. Texas is back! Until their 3rd loss by mid-season and fan interest wanes yet again.

  4. (…digs to the bottom of the laundry hamper and pulls out the “Texas is BACK” t-shirt, smoothing out the wrinkles and “protein” stains…)

  5. Eric has a tendency to decide what his conclusion is first and then build his argument around the predetermined conclusion. There are some strong arguments in favor of Beck over Ewers, but Beck not being trusted with the offense until Kentucky (which was game 6) isn’t one of them, unless you’re criticizing Georgia’s offensive staff for holding him back, but Eric would never criticize Bobo.
