Your Game Day Post, Malaise or Madness

I have to say, this has been the type of week where it feels like we are about to play UMass and not Mississippi State. One part could be the 1-4 record of the Bizarro Dogs, one part a continue hangover from the Alabama game, another from a ho-hum 18 point win against a rival we’ve owned for 8 straight.

Part of it could be the belief that this will be a Manball game, with Kirby content to go through the motions to get the W without any injuries and be in good health prior to Texas. Could be Kirby’s challenge to fans and the fans retort that the product on the field needs to be more entertaining.

It’s a weird spot to be in, one I’m not used to. To recap our season thus far, we’ve got a win against a top ten team that we slaughtered, a loss by a touchdown to another one, we’re currently #5 in the country, and in a good position to be in the CFP conversation. Somehow, though we’re in a collective funk. I’d love to hear what Munson or the Senator would have to say about that.

Then there’s this:

Looks like even the game day hype is saying “let’s get up for special teams”. That doesn’t make for a recipe for “bring the energy”, amirite?

When the wife asked me last weekend while we watched the game in bed (we were sick) she asked why the game was so slow (read: boring). I made the comment that I feel Kirby knows when it’s time to turn it on and when it’s time to just do the thing. I feel this is a “just do the thing” kind of game so I’m not expecting razzle dazzle, but I’ve been wrong before.

The thread is open to your commentary, and, as always, behave you scamps.

  1. I believe in Kirby, and I feel confident he has a solid reason for how he manages games. But at the same time, I kinda wish we could approach some of these games with the same attitude as Ohio State or Texas or USC and open a can of whoopa$$ with a 600-yard 50+ point game.

    • It feels better. The weather is definitely not muggy like last week. Student section filling up with a little over hour until game time.

  2. We get in our own way. Etienne has nearly been tackled by his own blockers twice already.

  3. Boy it’s hard to stay fired up when watching the offense is as exciting as a trip to the dentist, at least in the first half of games. Everything just appears to be so difficult. It feels like something could click & everyone starts rolling but it needs to start soon, the schedules not getting any easier. That drive is a good start.

      • Remind me, Russ–is Kirby or the crowd getting paid $10 mil a year? The crowd, right?

          • I was (ineptly, I guess) agreeing with Russ that it’s absurd for Kirby to find fault w/ the crowd when it’s his job and his staff’s to get the team motivated.

  4. I will say this and the Bobo haters are goi g to cream themselves, it’s impossible to defend his calling this many damn screens. I mean good grief.

  5. LMAO! Great fake, good throw, and I don’t know what they told 11 on the sideline but he grabbed that one like it was gonna hurt if he didnt…

  6. Okay, my theory is CMB was late coming back from halftime leading to the offense throwing the ball downfield. 😁

  7. Brutal INT. I mean, nice play by the Miss. St. DB. But there’s no reason for Beck to take that chance. (I know–it’s easy to be an armchair QB.)

  8. Allowing a team multiple 75 yard TD drives at home is tough. It’s especially tough when you remember Miss St got blown out at home by Toledo.

    I’m over Schumman.

  9. This is a very bad defensive performance. Easily the worst of the year. Not what you want to see against a 1-4 team giving a freshman his first start one week before you play the best team in the country. It may be extremely painful to watch next week if we can’t play better than this. And we haven’t seen much this season that indicates we can. Today we don’t look like a team that can make the top 12. This isn’t even regression to the mean. This is a team that isn’t playing to their potential and isn’t playing as a cohesive unit.

  10. Man, if we are playing like this at home to this terrible team then next week may be ugly.

    • At this point our hope is to out score them. We aren’t stopping Texas the way we’re playing defense today.

        • I think we may be happy if it’s ONLY 500 next week. I hope I have to come on here next week and eat a huge plate of crow. I’ve gone from hoping for a win next week to just hoping we don’t get embarrassed.

  11. Running game non existent, not sure what happened to the team that played Clemson but this is disheartening.

    • Earlier in the game, they mentioned that UGA was 15/16 in the SEC for rushing yards before contact. After today’s performance It think whoever was 16 just moved up to 15 and we dropped to 17th behind Bye Week

  12. How long has it been since GA fielded a defense this bad? Since we walked into Bryant Denny they look shell shocked and can’t stop anything. What the hell happened?

  13. I guess the crowd didn’t get down on the field and help play defense so definitely their fault we played so poorly.
