What better way to throw Texas off than throwing the whole playbook out in one game. Also what better way to throw Texas off than to show them how inept we are on defense.
The crowd delivered, offense delivered, Kirby’s bread and butter…well, they’ve got some work to do.
Maybe we need another “man enough” moment, as in “that’s enough with the man concepts on defense”.
At least we didn’t lose.
Dawgs finally up 27-10, I go out to do a little bushogging and come back in and we are squeezin out 41-30!? What fresh hell is this?!?!
Interception. Explosive plays from a true freshman qb getting his second career start.
Getting ready for opening weekend? I’ll be sitting in the woods in Shiloh Saturday morning. Might just stay there until Sunday and avoid the game altogether.
Now, last TD came against the backup defense. I don’t imagine Kirby is going to show any mercy in Starkville next year as a result of that.
Well, we sho made a shitty team look good, didn’t we? Our DB play has fell off a cliff. A very high cliff.
Next week is gonna be ugly.
I think Kirby has sold his soul to hire fcking “Recruiting Coaches” instead of damn good position coaches. The DB’s are fking pitiful! Daylan struggled last year and hasn’t improved at all. Humphries man skills are pathetic. Every week I mention Starks. WTF is going on with our DB’s. Hell they all were 4 and 5 recruits. Somebody ain’t doing their job coaching up.
Think you’re on the right track 3leggeddawg, don’t imagine Donte Williams will be back next year. Encouraged to look around might be a good way to put it.
Bring Back Boom!
We need some sort of change. Bring back boom, reassign Schumann or something. What we’re doing now isn’t working very well given the talent Kirby has stockpiled there. The busts in the secondary are inexplicable and need to be fixed.
Its been 40 years since we went to Texas and let them know what time it is.
They’re overdue for a reminder!
I admire your confidence. Wish I could share it.
I’ll be in the North End Zone pulling us through.
I recognize Kirby and his D spoiled us the last several years. Also, I’m thankful we won another SEC game. That said, I think the Dawgs’ DYPP is now S-H-I-T.
Stats are for losers.
This is just not a very good team. Lack of fundamentals and discipline. Underperforming OL and poor tackling. Some of Becks’s decisions were mesmerizing. Looked evenly matched for far too much today against a 1-4 team. Many seemed to have regressed this year. I know we’re not allowed to blame Bobo, but dang if this doesn’t look like the typical Bobo team. Good things happening, decent stats, but far too many blunders, miscues, and periods of offensive abstinence. Defense is a shell of its former self. Maybe it’s coaching. Maybe it’s leadership. Maybe it’s Maybelline. Whatever it is, I can’t shake the feeling we’re going to a 2008 style funeral next week. At least we will be ready for it this time.
Okay. I’m out of people to blame and shit to complain. Wait, was the crowd doing it’s job??
Maybe it’s Maybelline. Sir, that is golden. Yes, the crowd did its job. Someone else isn’t.
I totally forgot the Stanford tight end guy. Something starting with a Y. How does a Kirby Smart roster get to the point where we need that guy blocking anything?
Apparently, we don’t need his blocking, because he hasn’t blocked a thing.
🤣🤣
Kirby once said “you’re either elite or you’re not”….this team is NOT elite. I guess the past few years have spoiled us to the point that victories do not satisfy the fan base anymore. I certainly did NOT enjoy that game, or the 1st half of any of the previous games this year. I still love the Dawgs, but the offense is inconsistent and the defense has become awful (especially the secondary). Prove me wrong Dawgs, but I don’t see any remaining games on the schedule that will not be a struggle except UMass. How is this the same team that didn’t allow a TD the first 3 games? Did the Bama game screw us up that bad? We haven’t looked the same on defense since then. While we are averaging giving up 17.16 pts per game, it’s 28.33 pts per game the last 3 games. Not sure what the problem is, but this team doesn’t look like a playoff worthy team this year at this point. At least not yet. Maybe the switch with come “on” like it did in 2007 (after the Vandy game). Fingers are crossed.
People have now figured out that the way to beat Kirby is not on the ground, but by airing it out vertically. He uses the defensive backs to come up and get sacks and stop runs because he, a former DB, realizes how nice it is to get that tackle in the stat column and he seems to despise zone coverage. His defensive scheme is predicated on having a strong defensive line that allows the defensive backs to feast on poorly thrown balls and the DBs clean up for any guy who makes it through the chaos. We don’t have the DL for it, so while the middle zones are covered well, just sit back and sling it deep because you’ve got 50/50 balls there and it’s a best case scenario for someone who can’t run the ball. Alabama was just piss poor scheme for two quarters, but the rest has been folks realizing “just go deep” and it works. Also taking Starks off of safety isn’t working imo. Maybe Kirby’s trick is shifting to zone concepts for the Texas game. Who knows.
I do think people have figured out Kirby’s scheme. It seems too easy for some of these teams.
We might have the D-line for it of we could get Mikel Williams and Jordan Hall healthy, but the current group is just solid and doesn’t have a game changer/disrupter like we had in the past.
We won two nattys because of Todd Monken, a once in a lifetime player in Brock Bowers, and a QB that played way with heart and way above his paygrade. We now have Bobo and Searles, a guy from Stanford that couldnt block a spam telephone number, and 2024 Greg McElroy. Throw in a porous D with Verizon coverage skills and you get a not very good team. Kirby gets the credit for what he did with this program. He gets credit for this as well.
Laughed out loud at ‘a guy from Stanford who couldn’t block a spam call.’
Don’t forget that we had Lanning as DC for the 1st natty, and Boom was more involved in ’22.
Yeah I’m still trying to figure out how Bobo gave up 31 points and multiple big plays to a freshman QB on a team that was blown out by Toledo.
Maybe he was distracted by putting up 600 yards of offense. Beck played great for almost the entire game and then throws a head scratcher at the goal line. Of course, then Bobo let them march 75 yards for the TD.
30-37 for over 300 yards to a guy making his second start. On a team off to it’s worst start since 2006.
I think Kirby got caught projecting his team’s performance frustration on fan crowd noise. D is his baby. And it’s a fugly baby this year.
Okay, it’s the fault of everyone in the State of Georgia not named Bobo. Whatever. It looks ugly. 🙄
41 points with no cheap field position and today’s clock rules and the result is the offensive coordinator’s fault? I guess that makes sense if Bobo told Beck to make that Joe Cox throw for the interception on the goal line.
The “typical Bobo team” as in “we’d better score 40+ because the defense is gonna give up 30+”?
Fuck.
Got Sr. is gone
RangerRuss is gone
Blutarsky is gone
I’m having a hard time giving a shit.
Just a bunch of kids playing with a ball…
Happened been engaged much since the Senators’s passing. RangerRuss is gone?
Yeah. COPD sucks
Sadly yes. Not sure Ranger made it a month after we lost the Senator. Wasn’t long.
So sad. He made my day. Often while pointing out my stupidity. DGD!
Was not aware Got Sr. had previously passed. My condolences. Getting old is not for the weak. Hope all those boys are having a toast to celebrate the win.
My advice is:
enjoy the wins
don’t talk shit to opposing fans because they will make you eat shit when the worm turns as it always does
espn is the devil so don’t watch or listen
don’t let any loss carry over until Monday
If you stick to the path, its still quite enjoyable.
When Bama fans give you shit, just point out that, sure, we lost to Bama. But they lost to Vandy!!!
RIP to those DGDs.
Big opening win. Slog thru Lexington. Lose a close one ugly. Sleepwalk through a cupcake. I’ve seen this movie before. It usually ends well though. Still…something about our DNA in this pattern. Dr. Kirby needs to find the cure.
The team is not well. Inexperience in many areas, talent gaps (OL & WR), no discipline on the field, and constant nonsense off the field. It’s not the same program they’ve had the past several years. Instead of stepping on their throats and putting the game away, you let them back in it with a dumb playcall and bad turnover in the endzone. It’s the SEC, but beating the worst team in a 16-team conference by 10 when they lost to Toledo at home by 24… I wish the only problem this team had was spoiled fans. Looks to me more like the shine is off, and the guys in BM don’t know how to fix it.
When UGA football gets the oppositions yearly best shot, sometimes UGA football takes that shot and sticks it square up the oppositions ass, gets a “W”, there are times when UGA football takes that best shot and out besteses it just a little better, (timely plays) gets a “W”, moments happen, shit happens, we might be in the middle of a shit happens season, could staff turnover be a deal….GO DAWGS!!
Leading rusher was Anthony Evans (1 rush for 52 yds). This OL couldn’t open a hole in a wet paper bag. Aight, I exaggerate, but not by much. We’ve had two significant injuries, but before the season began I thought OL depth would be a strength. Bottom line (pun intended): neither the DL nor the OL is getting the job done. Gonna watch the Texas game like a horror movie, with my hands in front of my eyes. Happy early Halloween, fellow GTP refugees.
I can’t blame Bobo, but nobody said I can’t blame Searles. Yes!! He’s back and so is the grossly underperforming offensive line!!
Yeah, if there’s an off-season coordinator fire, it’s Searles. He inherited studs and made them into mush. The down linemen aren’t well at all.
We’ve had two guys out the last 2 weeks. Our best lineman has been out since early in the Kentucky game. You don’t have 600+ yards of total offense without good offensive line play. The offense wasn’t the problem today.
Not saying we didn’t put up yards, but I’m thinking even prior to injuries, it’s seemed like our OL has taken a step back all season. Yards were hard to come by on the ground in the Clemson game and every game since. Center position excluded, we were supposed to be deeper and better and they just don’t seem to have the same tenacity they used to. I can’t prove it with data or anything, but it just seems like years prior we found yards beyond the LOS, our guys are having to dance before they hit the LOS this year.
Our secondary looks like shit. Our LB’s can’t get to the perimeter. Our DL can’t stuff the line of scrimmage. Nobody tackles well. This is starting to look like the worse defense we have seen from a Kirby team since 2016. It actually reminds me more of a Willy Martinez defense. Texas looked pretty physical today against OU, punishing them at times. Oof.
Hang in. Wait a minute now. What you said about the d line is just not true.
You don’t throw for 300 yards if the opposing DL is kicking ass. It’s not all about stopping the run. They have to take on double teams, exert pressure upfield and keep the LB’s from getting blocked. How many sacks did we have today? I don’t remember any, but I could be wrong.
Stupid penalties, turnovers, a couple of dimes dropped.
The TD at the end was a garbage TD where we didn’t have a single starter in the game.
One terrible throw on the goal line.
Was it lousy? Yes. Did we win? Yes.
Man this is a weird team. The missed tackle problem seems to have gotten better but now we can’t cover anybody. Martin Van Buren did whatever he wanted in the second half and it was like we were helpless to do anything about it. Beck is Doctor Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde this year. He was great and awful at the same time. Just a schizophrenic football team.
We should’ve run the William Henry Harrison defense against Van Buren. It worked in 1840.
I can appreciate this type of analysis.
Come for the football analysis, stay for the history lesson.
I do t get the bitching about the defensive line. Secondary? Absolutely. Linebackers? Maybe. But the defensive line did its job.
My problem with the d-line today is that I don’t think we got any sacks and they committed a stupid roughing the passer penalty that eventually led to points.
I agree, Mike. DL hasn’t been terrible, but secondary, supposedly our strength, has been really bad.
The DL isn’t bad, it’s just that the benchmark that they are measured against was phenomenal. Not sure many of these guys would have gotten much playing time on a team with the guys of 2001 and 2002 (assuming the same number of years experience for each-all in the Jr or Sr year). Not sure any other than Dawkins-Ingram and Williams would have a chance to crack the 2 deep.
We did fine against the run, but we cannot seem to get consistent pressure on the QB.
Congrats to the Dawgs for another home win! Well done fellas. That being said, our defense has major issues. Our secondary appears to be pretty bad and our D-line is no great shakes. As for the offense, well, they try really hard. Our O-line is less than stellar and our WRs are average at best. Oh, and our head coach pulls a Woody Hayes today on the sideline. Nice job Kirby! Guess KS will remain in Athens next weekend while the team travels to Austin, TX. This group is far from elite.
Given today’s atmosphere, I would not be shocked if Kirby is fired for his actions today. Does he deserve to be canned? Of course not. Is it possible? Most certainly. Is it 100% Kirby’s fault? Yes it is. He should know better and it is an awful look. Wonder why we have dumb penalties and kids that routinely run afoul of the law? Look no further than our HC. See how easy that was? And I am not even a journalist. This has the potential to get out of control real quick. It is possible that Kirby coached his last game as our HC today.
Right.
Observations post will be late today. I had a ton of extended interruptions yesterday and need to watch the game again. Not that I’m excited to watch that game again, but hey, it’s what I get paid to do around here. 😉
I’ll do it for you:
Crowd loud.
Offense scored a lot.
Defense got scored on too much.
Off to Austin…hope you’ll have a tailgate ready.
I get the angst – we should be crushing the Faux Dogs instead of just winning. But look around, Alabama should crush Vandy and South Carolina. Florida took Tennessee to OT before finally being UF. It’s happening everywhere right now. I am worried about the secondary – it seems like Everette is too slow for his job and the young guys are out of position too often. But I have to believe CKS can fix that.
