Consider the injuries that Kirby detailed at a spring practice presser:
“I do a year-to-year average. In 2024 we had 12 out (for spring with injury). In 2023 we had 8 out. In 2022 we had 14 out,” Kirby told reporters on Tuesday.
Kirby listed nine specific players who had repairs to help with injuries sustained during the 2024 season.
1. Monroe Freeling (Labrum repair)
2. Gabe Harris (Labrum repair)
3. Colton Heinrich (Labrum repair)
4. Christen Miller (Labrum repair)
5. Jaylan Morgan (Labrum repair)
6. Ryan Montgomery (ACL repair)
7. Branson Robinson (PCL repair)
8. Roderick Robinson (ankle repair)
9. Brett Thorson (ACL/MCL repair)“They may be available for some things,” Kirby said.
That’s just holdovers from some regular season injuries. Battered, beaten, and bruised in an understatement. Come to think of it, did we ever play a single game with a completely healthy roster? Especially one where key contributors weren’t out or injured?
And was there a more beaten beleaguered unit than the running back room? And we wonder why we lacked production in the run game.
Well this isn’t starting well. Hate to see the labrum problems return. I swear last year was Richt’s encore.
Do you know what the normal cause of a torn labrum? Seems to have become a very common injury over the last 5-10 years. Maybe it used to be referred to differently?
Just curious.
Given the positions played by the athletes listed above, I would suspect it’s from impact to the hip area from blocking techniques or getting caught in the wash of line play.
No. We were plagued with it during the Richt years. I was kind of making a joke. There has been some talk here that last year’s team was the most Richtian team Kirby has had. When I saw all those labrum injuries it kind of supported that. What really sucks is Ron Courson isn’t there anymore.
Mr. JP I am not a UGA grad. I am however an avid fan of the DAWGS. Born and raised that way. Labrum refers to both shoulder and hip sockets. Other than their positions do you know something that makes you think these are hip issues vs shoulder? I am curious.
