Interesting Twitter post from the other night.
My personal choice, only maybe because it was my first Cocktail Party:

Or my second maybe would be

Honestly, though, I wonder how much of the trajectory of 1990s football would’ve been impacted by a Georgia win against Spurrier in 1993…and even worse, what would’ve happened if Robert Edwards doesn’t get hurt against Tennessee in 1995?
Discuss.
Add the 2012 SEC tipped ball. Along with the previous mentioned plays are potentially the most history changing of my lifetime.
Another national championship altering play, 2002 GA/fl game, Pollack’s “forward” handoff and or Richt putting Shock in to throw a horrible pick 6.
Winning the ’93 WLOCP wouldn’t have changed much, other than breaking the Lizards’ winning streak over us. Goff was still the coach.
Egh..there was so much bullshit cheating and unfairness to that whole game I almost don’t even acknowledge it happened. You could almost keep the Tyler Simmons play and give me back the 4th down offsides touchdown. If that’s called who knows – probably a fg try by them. Maybe a miss, block, bad snap. Even if they make it we still have the lead IIRC.
I think I’d go more the injury route..Edwards is a great one or give me back Mr Chubb against the hillbillies.
The missed facemask on Swift
How do millions of people all see the same thing at the same time, yet 7 dudes in stripes don’t who happen to be responsible for it? And that was a 3rd down IIRC w the mo’ slippin away.
It was 2nd down (I went back and looked at the play by play). It was two plays after Tyler Simmons was onsides.
To me it was worse than Ty Simmons because we get a 1st down there and get to burn more clock
and what kills me the most is if you have to argue over penalties then you lost somewhere else in the game but damn these bum ass calls put me to the test!
Kneeland has not been kind to Georgia players’ legs over the years. Seeing Chubb and Michel run through them in 2017 almost makes it better … almost.
Not giving up the first down pass late to Florida in ‘92
Allowing the play in ‘93 without the timeout vs. Florida
Screwing up the big win over Florida in ‘97 by laying egg at home 2 weeks later vs. Auburn
Joe Hamilton ‘98
Jasper Sanks ‘99
Terrence Edwards catches the pass and scores in Jax in ‘02
Laying an egg against Tennessee in ‘04 after the curb-stomping of Saban’s LSU
DJ doesn’t get hurt vs. Arkansas and Tre Battle pulls himself out of the game in ‘05
The egg laying vs. South Carolina in ‘07
The entire wasted ‘08 season
Greg McGarity stops asking AJ Green questions in ‘10
Richt & Bobo tell Murray to spike the ball in 2012 (or the tipped ball doesn’t go directly to Chris Conley)
The Prayer in ‘13
Run the damn ball on the South Carolina goal line and don’t pooch kick in ‘14
2nd and 26 in ‘17 (DUH!)
The dumb fake punt in ‘18 (it was the wrong call even if it worked)
The non-review of Bond’s 4th down catch in ‘23 (Bama privilege is real and it’s spectacular)
Out of all of those, the one that meant the most is 2nd and 26. Call a timeout. Stay on your hash. Just do something. I still can’t watch the play 8 years and 2 titles later.
5 yards away is still the one that hurts the most because that team left it all on the field for 60 minutes. Todd Gurley deserved better that night. Would McGarity have had the capital to fire CMR if Richt had that national title?
The 2 that sti piss me off are Auburn ‘97 because that kept us out of big time New Year’s bowl game when that mattered and South Carolina ‘14 (Mike Bobo will probably be rocking n his front porch as a retired coach wondering “what if).
Thanks, JP, for taking me down that rabbit hole of misery this morning.
EE, seems you have been keeping this list for this moment. But I agree with every one. Probably some other not mentioned like the hail marry against the Vols in Athens after we had taken the lead.
The only reason that one isn’t on the list is that while painful, it didn’t necessarily change the fortunes of the program. I considered it, but in the infamous words of Jeff Dantzler, it was a “throwaway” season. 😉
Add Herman Archie dropping a wide open td vs PSU in the Sugar Bowl.
I didn’t want to go that far back, but yes.
I would like to erase the entire turd games in ‘95 and ‘96 from memory
That’s different. Those games were truly awful, but there was never a point those games were winnable at the time they were played.
Not dawg related really but the Kick 6 was big.
What is Cammy Cam Cams never gets in trouble for the stolen laptop?
What if Mark Richt had done what he says he would do if he had it
To do over again where Todd Gurley is concerned. “Prove it.”
For us there are just so many kicks square in the nuts…
However, if I had to limit it to just one, it would be one that would lead CMR to a natty. I wanted so badly to see him win just one doing things the right way. Had he nipped bama’s machine with that ragtag 63 player roster, it would have been miraculous and glorious.
Second? Vince takes the Auburn job and Erk is named Head Coach for the 1981 season. Talk about changing the arc of history….
Btw: I am a big fan of Vince Dooley but its obvious to me now that Erk was at a different level. I think he’d be in the discussion with Bear and SOS and Saban had that happened. And frankly SOS may not have happened if Erk gets that job. We’d have had what ran over and through the gators in the Fiesta Bowl right there in Athens.
The untraveled road of an Erk Russell regime in Athens during the 80’s has to one of the biggest “what-ifs” in Dawg history. And of course Dooley to Auburn would have meant no Pat Dye era in the Plains. Wild!
Maybe Dye follows Bear instead?
Just ONCE I would have loved to have seen a CMR revenge tour. His closest was 2012 when Dawgs for the 2nd and final time in his tenure defeated Auburn, Tennessee and Florida in the same season (also getting knee-capped 35-7 by Spurrier’s Gamecocks). Losing to Bama in the SECCG was the fork in the road for Richt’s tenure and one moment (among many others) I’d like to erase.
He’ll never get the credit he deserves for righting the ship after what we were in 2009. No one turns a battleship around these days. They aren’t allowed to or can’t. One play goes differently or he gets the right qb recruit in 2012-14 and maybe the story has a different ending.
I’d erase whatever dumbass decision lead to us losing Erk and getting Ray.
Then the JAX timeout. Then 2nd and 26.
