Countdown to Georgia Bulldogs Football, 99 Days

Good morning! Just think about it… the cool fall air, the sight of tents popping up all over campus. The smell of grills starting up and the flavorful scents that waft through the air. The joy of game day and spending time with 90,000 others that share your passion. The roar of the crowd, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Sounds wonderful, right?

Well, all of that is 99 days away. All you’re getting right now is poor, amateurish writing in order to tease you that football season is right around the corner! So, while we endure summer temps in the 90s and humidity high enough to think you’ve walked into Satan’s sauna, we’ll think ahead to cooler days, cheerleaders, marching bands and football football football!

So, I’ve put very little thought into this and, here’s what I came up with. In 1989, a sports card company called Collegiate Collection released a 200 card set highlighting Georgia Bulldog history and football greats. The set is called Georgia’s Finest and I happen to be a proud owner of the complete set. So, for the next 99 days I will share cards 199-101 (is my math mathing correctly? we’ll see) with all of you. Next season’s countdown will feature the 2nd half of the set. The set is interesting to me and I hope you will enjoy the journey. Card 200 is a checklist and basically useless for this effort.

Here’s card 199 for 99 days until Dawgs football….

Go Dawgs!

  1. Mike Cooley has been asking about you, and voila, here you are!!
    Welcome back Hoss!!

    HBTFD

    • Yeah, staying pretty busy around here going to physical therapy appointments, doctors, etc. Never ends.

  2. Otis! Good to see you around. Don’t be such a stranger. There is no GTPR without you after all.

    • I appreciate that Mike, but don’t sell the rest of the Knights short, they’ve been doing a fantastic job.

  3. Welp, looks like I picked the wrong week to not shop for old sports cards on the Ebay…

  4. This ties to my response on my first game attended. Got these guy’s autographs!

  5. Otis! My man!

Great post to come back on. I love history, and I love the Dawgs. Combine the two and it’s just about perfect. Looking forward to these.

    • Only thing to bear in mind is that history stopped at 1988 for this set of cards so, some “history” may be outdated… but, hopefully everyone will find this interesting.
