The 1st round is in the books. I hate playoff expansion, but that’s another post for another day (and my side has lost that battle).
Because there were 2 Group of 5 teams getting boat-raced, there wasn’t much of note from the weekend on the message boards. We still came up with a few doozies. Let’s start today’s trip in Norman where the ghosts of Coach Bryant and Coach Wilkinson are spinning in their graves.
83 rushing yards … combined. Alabama flipped the script on Oklahoma by being terrible on offense but taking advantage of a defensive TD and special teams blunders to beat the Sooners in the rematch. The first half meltdown of the Bammer fan base was glorious to watch, and then Mateer throws the pick 6. I don’t know if Bama suckered Mateer into a bad decision or a receiver missed a signal, but it was horrible.
Oklahoma was wearing “Hard to Kill” (thanks, Kirby) shirts on the sideline, but Alabama once again proves you have to drive a stake through their heart when you have them down.
Bama now goes on to Pasadena to take on top-ranked Indiana. The Hoosiers should be on high upset alert.
Let’s move over to College Station as the Aggies quietly depart the CFP in Texas 8&4 fashion.
3 points on your home field? The vaunted TAMU defense gives up 175 yards rushing? -2 turnover margin?
Here might be the play that turned the game.

How do you give up 10 yards of field position on a perfect pooch punt from plus territory? I can imagine Kirby would blow a gasket for something like that. Then you give up a 56 yard run on the next play.
Hidden yardage gets teams beat.
Is Mike Elko a great coach? No. Is he a pretty good one? Yes.
How do Texas and Texas A&M fans feel today about Texas Tech being the only school left standing? I can only imagine.
We’re going to end our trip today by stopping off to check in on a fan base whose season is over. South Bend, Indiana.
Has there been a more obnoxious fan base on social media the last 2 weeks than this bunch of entitled crybabies? There was constant complaining on Friday and Saturday that the Irish would beat any of the 4 teams by 50 if they had just been given a chance.
These are the Yankees that Lewis Grizzard was talking about when he said, “Don’t come here and tell us how you do it in Cleveland. Delta is ready when you are.” You lost to the 2 teams on your schedule that made the playoff. You didn’t have a 13th data point like 1 other team. You had no quality win like the last of the 4.
You were as flawed as the others. Join a conference. I really do hope the other schools outside the ACC tell ND to pound sand on scheduling now.
That’s what I saw. Give me your thoughts in the comments.
I was enjoying RTR which started off with fire everyone. Then when down by 17 there was a common thread as the number of posters fell off. That’s it I’m turning this mess off goodnight see you next season.
I wonder how many of the die hard Bammers went from insisting how much they hate Deboer and wishing evil on him and the team, to jumping and shouting in joy and declaring this the greatest team ever.
I love Grizzard. What a treasure he was and is.
Verily.
“Has there been a more obnoxious fan base on social media the last 2 weeks than this bunch of entitled crybabies?”
This is saying something especially when the FSU and Tennessee fan bases exist. ND is giving them a run for their money this postseason
Obnoxious vs entitled, the bammers can’t be both, but can qualify as pure assholes by pressing the default/reset button located at the family gathering structure with the half moon on the front door…GO DAWGS!!
Isn’t it really a crescent moon?
A crescent moon isn’t big enough to accommodate the average Bama fan. In fact, it really should be a full moon. (Pun intended.)
The actual spelling of crescent became an issue for those alabamians of the smarter than a fifth grader graduating class…GO DAWGS!!
Thanks ee. Agreed with you this weekend was case in point for a return to a 4 team playoff. By 3:30 on Saturday afternoon all the compelling football was over. But we know contraction is an extinct animal in today’s sports world. ESPN needs their content and the conference commissioners, ADs and presidents will always take the money and run. Just wondering if playoff expansion does to 16 or 24, and how conference championships may play into a 16 or week season spanning 7 months.
Does Lanning feel good or bad after Saturday, or does that fit the Kirby blueprint to have something to chew their asses about at practice.
Notre Dame and Michigan have been 1 a. and 1 b. on the hate list all of my life. They’re there for a reason. There they shall stay.
So we are now on week 3 of Notre Dame bashing. There are currently 5 (yes 5) articles up on the Athletic about them. I don’t get it, but carry on.
I’m bashing their entitled, whiny fans. I do t care who got the slot. The bottom line is they are as flawed as the teams they compare themselves against and lost on the field to 2 of them.
Marcus Freeman should be embarrassed.
Its just not enough is it?
Just another reason I’m glad I canceled my subscription to the Athletic.
I literally had to cancel my cc years ago in order to cancel my subscription to the Athletic. They’re right up there with the AJC who cashed my subscription renewal check. Then a few weeks later decided it was no longer profitable to deliver in my area. Still waiting on that refund check they promised it’s in the mail back in 2009.
Maybe wrong thread for this, but haven’t seen one come up yet. I hate A&M and Miami, but I’ve had a huge question bugging me ever since the end of that game. The play before the Miami int in the end zone where the Miami dude knocked himself out appeared to be a clear case of helmet to helmet launching targeting, for which the rule was intended to protect the defensive player against the exact such injury it appeared the defender suffered. Then no mention of possible targeting by the announcers, no review, it was like it was just another play. I could see Elko going crazy asking for targeting on the sidelines briefly but the camera cut away real quick. Like ESPN wanted to ignore the huge targeting elephant in the room and move on quickly knowing it wouldn’t get addressed. Can anyone explain to me why it wasn’t targeting?
We were wondering the same thing about targeting non-call. I’ve given up trying to guess what it is/isn’t. When they overturned targeting against Gunner in last year’s SECCG, I decided I must not be smart enough to understand the subtle nuances of the call.
Or, it’s just all made up and flagellant on the spot depending on circumstances.
It did look like he led with the crown, but who knows? I don’t understand what is and isn’t targeting from the beginning.
Same play the Miami kid was down for a while and looked concussed? It appeared to be H to H with launching. I didn’t understand why the booth didn’t take a look either.
Did not see the play but it got me to wondering if the conference affiliated officials have been set for the next round. Did not see a posting to date. Wondering if we get an SEC crew.?
There’s no way it’s an SEC crew.
Is that a good thing or bad? Offensive holding, PI and targeting are apparently subjective nowadays. Not sure if the consistency or lack of consistent calls for these penalties could rear it ugly head. Let’s hope we don’t give the zebras a chance to make an impact.
Yes, that’s the play I’m talking about. Would have given A&M 1st and goal at the 1 (or 2, wherever they place it when foul in the end zone) with 4 chances from closer. That would have been a huge change and would have had a chance to sneak a run up the middle with the time they had left. Just crazy it wasn’t even mentioned. I’ve never seen anything that I thought was clearer targeting, and to not even see it mentioned was crazy to me.
I think at most it would have given Reed two more chances to throw the interception. LOL
I think the refs missed the call, but I don’t think it would’ve had a huge impact. Aggies couldn’t take a chance running it since they had no time outs. Being closer actually makes it harder to pass.
I noticed this Miami fan in the stands during the game. I guess she has a side gig (I swear I didn’t know this – LOL). It was probably the most interesting thing during the game, though. As good ol’ Lewis said, it was two mules fighting over a turnip.

Fits for Miami.
She’s the head of their film department.
Post of the day!
Another cherished honor!
Keep up the great work FPD. That was funny thanks.
I remember seeing her in the crowd. I didn’t know who she was. I just figured she was the girlfriend of the guy next to her and she likes to look hot.
As for the “Think of the children” outrage, she was not dressed any more inappropriately than a lot of young women do at football games. Remember the FSU student?
Yeah, whoever wrote that “think of the children” post was having a bit of the vapors. She honestly dressed like 90% of the Miami fans. At least she was fit.
I just thought it was funny when I saw the article. As ee says, it fits Miami for sure.
I wonder how many Aggie fans at the game said “hey, that’s Abella Danger” and their wives/girl friends said “who?” “Uh…never mind”.
I (honestly) had to look up who she was on the internet. Now my IT department wants a word with me…
My bad. I should’ve labeled it NSFW. Luckily I read the news story first so I didn’t have risk my browser history.
I live about 35 miles north of Hard Rock most of the year now. I attend some of their games. Tickets are usually cheap on game day. My father got his undergrad at the U in the early 60’s. Then got transferred to Fort Mac lucky for me.
As for the dress code Ms. Danger was dressed in standard U apparel for ladies of her age group. Anyone offended by scantily dressed attractive young ladies attending home games at the U might not be for you.
Did you grow up around Fort Mac? I grew up sneaking onto the base to play tennis. Went to school (Sylvan) with some of the base kids for a couple of years until they decided to go elsewhere.
We never lived close by. We moved around the south side. Until our first house in what was the country back then off Old National Hwy. Dad was quickly sent back to Vietnam then to Atlanta Army Depot as an IG. Finally back to Fort Mac to finish his 28 in the Army. I started HS at SW Dekalb and finished at MD Collins. I definitely remember Sylvan HS.
I spent plenty of time at Fort Mac that’s for sure. When I turned 18 I was everybody’s best friend having the ability to buy beer for less than a $2.00 carton of cigarettes. Even on Sundays of course that day it was military near beer.
I continue to be baffled by the smoke-and-mirrors of Alabama 2025 football. 28 effing rushing yards, 2-12 on third down conversions, 54 total plays on offense, and won? Take away the 22 yards lost on sacks and Bama still only had 54 yards on 17 carries for an average of 3.8 yards per rushing attempt. Jam Miller was finally back and had a whopping 11 yards on 7 carries. I don’t know why I believed that Bama would “figure something out” in the run game since it has been who they are all season. How they win with that bad of a rushing attack is beyond me. I genuinely pull against everything associated with the B1G, but there is a part of me that hopes that Indiana absolutely humiliates Bama like Georgia did in the SECCG.
Not exactly what you think of when you hear the words “Roll Tide.”
Oklahoma really imploded. As bad a choke as you’ll ever see. They’re there for just tanked from the time the punter just dropped the ball to the pick 6 to the qb throwing downfield to a rb when he had green grass ahead of him, it was just a global meltdown.
They’re 0-5 in the playoffs for a reason.
You can’t fault their consistency.
I almost feel sorry for them. Having met a bunch of them in Pasadena I could see them reaching Texas level of obnoxious quick fast and in a hurry if they ever win anything again.
I will be pulling for Illinois. That way we have a chance to single handedly shut the collective B1G pie hole.
Notre Dame is gonna need a bigger boycott. The vitriol between ND accounts and others on my cesspool of a Twitter Feed means ALOT of the the Leperkhan Lovers were tuned in. The Worldwide Leader and Committee now know they can get the Irish Eyes by keeping ND out. Just watch them keep getting omitted until the eyeballs go away. lol
They all had to watch to tell us how bad the games were that they “weren’t watching”.
At the risk of being banned from this site, I have to pull for Bama over Indiana.
I am over the Big 10 & the CFP committee
I’m with you, Jim.
