The Sumrall era isn’t getting off to the best start.

From Heisman hopeful to the portal …

I’m sure some message board genius in Hogtown is going to say what good news this is.

About eethomaswfnc

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

  1. The proposed salary cut must have stung.

It’ll be interesting to see who is willing to invest.

I’d frankly be happier had the news been that the kid was staying. Would have indicated to me that Sumrall had his priorities out of whack.

I think there’s a good ball player in there if someone can motivate him to focus and work. Not doing the kid any favors handing him 3+ million a year and no one on campus is a threat to take your job.

    • I would guess that Sumrall would have loved to have had a former 5 star who has played well at times over the last 2 years to be his likely starting QB.

Just a thought, but Lagway is talented but needs coaching.

  2. Agreed on him staying. I’m amazed how so many are mesmerized by the AR15, Lagway, L Sellers types at QB. Hell even Kirby and Monken picked D Mathis to start.

  3. I have a feeling he’ll be returning to the Gayturds. Is he really good enough for another team to take a chance on for 3+ mil?

  4. The denizens of Stingtalk have their panties in a wad this morning over Lagway transferring. They’re convinced that it means Buster Faulkner is taking the presumed Tech starting QB with him to Florida. Nerd tears are the sweetest.

    • I saw 3 GT staffers were expected to be in Hogtown.

If I were a Croc, I wouldn’t be that upset with Lagway leaving. He has raw talent, I’m not sure it can be coached up. If he wants to leave let him leave and start fresh.

    • I figured part of Buster’s move was that he was moving to Lagway and away from Philo. The former seems like a better fit for what BF did with King the last two seasons. Maybe I was wrong.

      • Lagway is not about that life of putting his body on the line for his team. Didn’t you know he was proclaimed KING OF GAINSVILLE during SEC media days? Kings do not risk their body for their subjects, the subject’s risk their bodies for him!

      • I had no problem registering a few years ago. I keep thinking that the geniuses that run the board are going to kick me off due to my user name. The site is a constant source of entertainment.

  5. As GT is coming up with the topic, I don’t believe Brent Key is some great X’s and O’s coach. However, he made some good hires and allowed them to do what they could. The result was 2 of the best teams on the flats in some time. It’ll be interesting to see if he has that management skill and replace the leaving coaching talent.

  6. sounds like lagway got his fee-fee’s hurt, no guarantees that he would be the starter, and most importantly his bank account was going to take a hit in ‘26… when they say it ain’t about the money, then it is all… so he got his agents to spin for him « that he really wanted to be at Florida but.. »

  7. Also, saw th Nebraska QB is entering the portal. That’s some funny stuff right there. I have a buddy of mine that is a Nebraska fan, and I told him at the time that the kid wouldn’t finish his careet at Nebraska.

  8. I wonder if Sumrall is going to try and pull a Cignetti and bring half his Tulane squad with him. Can you imagine the meltdown in Jortsville if he turns that team around with a bunch of G5 players?

  9. I saw a tweet that of the 20 qbs were finalists for the Elite 11 in 2023. 13 have already transferred from the – school where they signed. So I fact-checked. I could only find that 11 had transferred. 12 entered the portal but one of them stayed.

Also, two of the guys who haven’t transferred are expected to enter the portal in January (Hurley & Hawkins)

CJ Carr – Signed with ND. Starter

Jadyn Davis – Signed with Michigan. Backup QB

Ethan Grunkmeyer – Signed with Penn St. Starter

Will Hammond – Signed with Texas Tech. Backup QB. Torn ACL.

Hauss Hejny – Signed with TCU. Transferred to Oklahoma St. Backup QB

Colin Hurley – Signed with LSU. Left team for personal reasons. Has not entered transfer portal. One of two scholarship QB’s on LSU roster.

Danny Kaelin – Signed with Nebraska. Transferred to UVA. Backup QB

Luke Kromenhoek – Signed with Florida St. Transferred to Mississippi St. Backup QB

DJ Lagway – Signed with Florida. Entered transfer portal.

Air Noland – Signed with Ohio St. Transferred to South Carolina. Backup QB

Dylan Raiola – Signed with Nebraska. Entered transfer portal.

Julian Sayin – Signed with Alabama. Transferred to Ohio St. Starter. Heisman finalist.

Elijah Brown – Signed with Stanford. Starter.

Michael Hawkins Jr. – Signed with Oklahoma. Started 4 games as freshman due to injury to starter. Redshirted in 2025.

Trever Jackson – Signed with Florida St. Transferred to Arkansas. Backup QB.

Danny O’Neil – Signed with San Diego St. Transferred to Wisconsin. Started 3 games. Season ended due to injury.

Ryan Puglisi – Signed with Georgia. Backup to Gunner Stockton.

Dante Reno – Signed with South Carolina. Transferred to Yale. Starting QB – led team to 2nd round of FCS playoffs.

Demond Williams Jr. – Signed with Arizona. Transferred to Washington. Starting QB

Isaac Wilson – Signed with Utah. Entered transfer portal in 2024 but withdrew. Backup QB at Utah.

  10. Got to believe Prime here in CO will be making a run at both Lagway and Raiola. His seat is hot and his health gives him an exit strategy to avoid being fired.

  11. I would like to see all the “Pundits” do a after the season report card on all of their preseason hot takes. I always respected the Senator for this and have only seen a few come out and own their baggage.
