I can’t adequately express the degree of my lack of any interest whatsoever in the polls or in scheduling or in the playoff selection process.
All I want is a team who will punch its ticket and then proceed to punch whoever they put in front of us in the mouth…until there are no others remaining to punch.
The rest of college football is such a state of unfortunate and unforgivable bullshit that I won’t waste bandwidth on it.
The “system” fucked an undefeated team. Over an injury. To give their own property the opportunity to improve its value..to them. And many (most?) soft brained Disney propaganda consumers accept and endorse this public kid fucking while also expecting fairness, logic and reasoning going forward…for themselves!

With the Arkansas AD as the head of the playoff committee, I hope he finally puts the strengthen of schedule issue to the front.
How does Ohio State & Michigan have 5 remaining top opponents and Indiana only 3. Given both OSU & Mich. have already faced a top 10 opponent. Maybe the big 2 in the big 10 should start complaining about their brethren.
He’ll have one hell of a time exalting the strength of schedule issue with the morons on the committee that don’t even know what it means but are by golly sure that everything north of the Ohio River is superior to all that is to the south…esp. college football.
If the BIG really was all that tough, you can bet that strength of schedule would be a top priority for selection.
But most of the BIG sucks, and most of the SEC is very competitive, strength of schedule will be only slightly discussed and then sloughed off as indeterminable and subjective.
But W/L records ,(Sankey did get suckered..or maybe I should say he got bought… either way, the BIG got what they were after) do a lot of lifting.
The most important thing a team can do to ensure great consideration is to be Notre Dame.
All of this shows why if there is going to be a selection committee, those members need to meet once to set and seed the field. Get rid of the CFP rankings and the weekly show to unveil the rankings.

The committee watches Herbie, puts its wet finger in the air, and does what it can get away with/what it can sell the public/what the public will buy, while at the same time keeping the main thing (money) the main thing.
There is no mystery nor a solution that will work any differently so long as there is a playoff formed via subjectivity.
They want maximum private payoff with maximum public buy in. Getting it right, fair or just is not the point. If it happens it will be entirely by accident.
Anyone who thinks that a SEC team with more losses is getting in ahead of a big10 team based on SOS or “eye test” is on some serious dope. If someone gets punted in that situation it will be a lower tier team and a big sec team involved.

Cincinnati may have gotten into a 12 team field in 2021 without winning the AAC, but they had pressure throughout the year to keep winning.
Even Herbstreit said last year that the rankings and show are useless until December. Of course, he was doing that from his home studio, so there was nobody behind the camera waving to stop talking.
I really don’t think ESPN puts its thumb on the scale in the committee room. We would hear that from somebody if it were happening. I said in response to someone last December that the most unhappy person with the selection last year was Bob Iger when he saw ND was out.
I don’t care that Ohio State won it from outside the top 4 2 years ago. 12 is too many and cheapens the regular season. When this thing goes to 24, there will be a number of teams that will never have to play a meaningful OOC game again. Georgia will be one of those.

The national media which is b10 centric provides cover for the playoff committee. In the end it’s always follow the money. They will make to set the payoff field that benefits them most.
I am fine making OSU and UM temporary honorary members of the SEC this year with the big boy schedules they are playing. Those are legit slates of games with two voluntary big time OOC games. Indiana and Texas Tech on the other hand . . .
If Texas survives this schedule, they will have earned it. I suspect they will hit their first bump this weekend.

I think that idea (threat?) should be openly discussed and exploited. He says the SEC would thrive..and it would.
If it happened, it would be reminiscent of the old NFL AFL days when they were two completely separate leagues that eventually matched their respective champions up in the Super Bowl (and then merged into one league. But please, without the eventual re-merging.)
Let the SEC become a league and not just a conference playing in a league. Then when the time, TV demand and $$$ is right..arrange a real National Championship game without the dumb-assed tournament that the CFP have become.

Regardless of what Michigan and Ohio State show right now, this image is the reason why it was stupid of the SEC to go to a 9 game conference schedule when an 8 game conference schedule is harder than any other conferences 9 game schedule. Indiana’s schedule is a disgrace.

The 9 game conference schedule mean$ more to the individual members of the SEC. With keeping the 1 Power 4 requirement OOC, that decision in most cases increased the value of the total TV package.

The problem with the CFP Committee is it exists. I really can’t think of another sport with an entirely subjective process to determine playoff eligibility. This is sold as a feature giving completely false hope to teams / schools / fans who felt shut out of the process before. They still are and the fear of their money walking away motivated the power brokers to come up with this system. This, however, will backfire as now even the “blue chip” competitors find they are getting screwed and will walk along with the previous hopefuls who see it was never about inclusion or the ridiculous “settle it on the field” argument. It’s money for tv and gamblers not for the passion of the fans. You can only exploit that for so long.
