As we wonder about how Georgia will balance their 2026 schedule, some dominoes start to fall.
Alabama and West Virginia have mutually agreed to cancel their home-and-home series, which was set to begin in Morgantown, W.Va., in 2026, with West Virginia returning the trip to Tuscaloosa in 2027.
New to the Crimson Tide’s future football slate is East Carolina, who will come to Tuscaloosa in 2026.
“We are proud of the number of high-quality home-and-home non-conference games we have scheduled for the next 10 years,” said Alabama director of athletics Greg Byrne. “That being said, we know that college athletics has been evolving and changing rapidly over the last few years, and it made sense for us to make these adjustments on our future schedules. We have a bit more flexibility as we transition to a nine-game format in the Southeastern Conference, and it gives us the opportunity to further evaluate how strength of schedule is evaluated for the College Football Playoff. Between other home-and-homes as well as conference games, we will continue to have a solid strength of schedule, which is good for our team, fans and college football.”
Louisville, we hardly knew ye. At least that’s my guess for what happens with our home team.
Call it the Louisville slugger…Dey gone
With Florida, South Carolina and us having only 2 open games left on our schedules going forward, I kind of wonder if some tough decission are going to have to be made.
Puh-thetic
The Little Sisters of the Poor are going to make some big bucks off SEC teams.
UGA 2026:
9/09 WKU
9/16@L’ville
TBA Tennessee State
11/25 GT
UGA 2027
9/04 @FSU
9/18 L’ville
11/27 @GT
Interested to know the terms of buyouts, payouts etc for those nonConf games. L’ville was a meh game for me. Better than Marshal and relatively easy game to road trip to. However, I wasn’t circling it on the calendar to get tickets.
Bama has often taken 1 big nonConf early and cupcakes to fill the schedule. UGA has attempted to schedule mutliple P5 (at the time) schools. Expanded playoff, Bama is doubling down on past scheduling and it is the easiest path to a title. They finish the season with 1 loss, they’ll get in with expansion. They were in the debate at 2 under the current model.
Bama 2026
9/05 East Carolina
9/12 USF
9/19 FSU
Bama 2027
9/18 at an Ohio State
The expanded playoff was susposed to help nonConf schedule as teams were building their resume. However, Indiana has exposed the real path to get in the playoff, which is the money, and the title.
Have, I mentioned I want 12 teams conferences and the BCS back.
I hope against hope we don’t cut Louisville. If Louisville puts you out of the playoff, were you a real contender? I guess you could ask Bama the same thing about West Virginia!
I still have nightmares about our loss to WV.
