I love me some Red and Black. When I can’t watch Georgia Baseball, I find following Olivia Sayer to be worthwhile for tracking the game’s events. In doing so, I came across an article she wrote for the Red and Black a while ago, thought y’all would enjoy.

I bet if the coach in question was a former Buckeye or Wolverine, they’d pave the way to change the entry criteria in a heartbeat, wouldn’t they?
Erk should be in the CFB Hall of Fame. The man shouldn’t be penalized for his loyalty to his good friend, Vince Dooley. He built a dominant program from nothing but a vision and a creek. In the words of Walt Disney, “it’s fun to do the impossible.”
To anyone who works at Chick-fil-a corporate and lurks or comments here, make it happen.
When I worked in the sports marketing department at Georgia Southern, legend had it that they had to run to the local sports store to buy a football for Erk’s presser announcing his hiring. The man built the program from literally nothing, and won three national championships. The fact the Barry Alvarez and Mike Bellotti are in the Hall of Fame makes me think this might not be the distinction we think it is.
Those who think the Pirate should be in over Erk are kidding themselves.
They really should both be in.
If Mike Belotti and Barry Alvarez are in, I agree about Leach. Erk should have been in over both of those guys regardless.
Good Morning JPM, When Bucky Wagner and Erk had the press conference to announce starting the football program, they in fact couldn’t find a football so sent someone across the street to Roses Dept Store to buy one to set on the table. True story
I spent many an afternoon on the soccer field looking at the old shopping mall right there, but couldn’t recall a Roses. Makes sense.
You may be too young!…LOL…I loved that store
“Men, I appreciate this with all my heart, you do not know how much I appreciate, I do love everyone of ya and screw florida and the mule they came in here on”….Coach Erk Russell is in the Hall of Fame, even though the prettiest little cesspool on the plains was his school of choice, this will not hold back the hard facts of life, he was a true leader of men, which places him solidly in the Hall of Fame…This is the game plan. We have no alternate plan.
No HOF induction is necessary to validate Erk Russell.
Just think what he could have done at UGA
The Bulldog club of Brussels met today at Place Jourdan and unanimously voted for Coach Russell’s induction into the Flanders and the Wallonia regions sports hall of fame. Le Sack will make the short flight from Toulouse, France and will be the featured, key note speaker this June. c’est elite et GATA!
SCREW the rule makers also Fla, Tennessee, & Auburn as well and the mule they rode in.
Long Live ERK
Screw the HOF I’ll never go back until they let Erk in.
At least we have Russell Field to share the Era memories with, don’t we. How can any long-UGA person not know the story is Russell, not Dooley. Think of the ’81 game against ND, Erk + Walker, that’s it.. Everyone in my circle was pulling for Auburn Basketball School to get V back then, that decision sent UGA to the place it deserved for the next 3 decades, but on a positive note V got a nice raise. Funny, I was in Ray’s office, in his very first game against Baylor, he was sound asleep, 1 hour before kick off, which was at 12:30 back then! Thanks V. What would you think an average game score under Dooley (rip) was, uga 12 opp 5. There are times when the sun shines on the wrong person, not a bad person, just the wrong person.
So it’s the Hall of micky mouse arse rules and stats for hanging around. My original rule was if you have to argue for someone to be in, they don’t deserve to be in. That all changed when the anti Morman Racists blackballed Dale Murphy in beisbol but Harold Baines is in. Now all Hall of Fames are dead to me and just garbage for losers. EVERYBODY here LOVES Erk and that’s all that matters. Thank you for sharing the young Red & Black writer’s article. It’s good to know we got students today still loving Erk!!!
