Hey y’all. I am upgrading the site to a current theme. The old theme is from 2011. I feel like a new up to date theme will be better. Feel free to comment here as I am working. Give feedback on anything you see that is out of place, doesn’t work right , etc. Thanks!

There’s an old saying – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That said, thanks for all you do. Also, this is a good time of year to play with the controls, but I hope it’s good come Friday.
Well, thing is, some things are broke. Like being able to see who liked your comment, being able to post pictures in comments without having to be a computer scientist… other little things like that. Thought maybe a 15 years newer theme might be a little better than one from 2011. I thought wrong.

Please note I received nine “virus-like” GTPR emails/posts today, all in latin(?) or some other crazy language I don’t recognize.
Perhaps one of the 10th Street peckerwoods has launched a cyber attack to thwart your heroics!!

I got the Latin versions too. Luckily, my hs Latin teacher agreed to pass me if I promised to never take the subject again. I have never been in another Latin classroom in 60 years.
I expect those emails were a result of the theme I installed, timeframe seems to match when I was working on the site.

This is going to come across as blasphemous; however, if more readership is desired as a result of site improvements (not assuming it is), it may make sense to consider incorporating something referencing Georgia or UGA in the site name so that it would potentially appear more prominently in searches for “Georgia or UGA sports news” or something of the sort. I only mention this because I want this site to continue as long as possible and if growth is a factor in this, then that’s my two cents for gaining more eyeballs at some point. Thank you all for everything!!
I’ve hesitated to do that. I don’t know what the “rules” are on that. We all know how protective UGA is of its name, logos, etc. (as they should be). I’ve just tried to stay away from anything that would look like I am co-opting their copyright. I may be over-thinking it but, better safe than sued.
Based on your comment, I am working on updating the backend of the site to reference keywords like UGA, Georgia, Bulldogs, etc. for search engines. Might get us noticed a little more. This way it’s not out front but, search engines can relate it to what is being searched.

I gave up. Site is set back to current format. I’ll try another time.
I did figure out how to get the Toolbar back across the top of the page. It should have a login link for those not logged in, maybe that will help some.
Otherwise, site should be back to what everyone is used to. We still have some functions I really want back like, being able to hover over Likes and see WTF liked my shit! The ability to post images in comments without having to be an HTML expert. You know, the simple things.
Thought maybe a newer theme wouldn’t have those gremlins. But, I could not get the header image and site name to look right on that Yosemite theme. Tried a sports related theme but, it ain’t much better. And I’m tired of screwing around with it today.

I think so, I imported a new theme and I think it did that during the process, sorry about that, I had no idea, no warning, nothing.
I really wanted to see a black #14 Bobo jersey motif but that would probably break some brains, lol. Seriously, I wanted to use yesterday’s preview as an excuse to get the bosses to give me a new computer. “My superfulous web surfing is being impacted”! Alas, my desire to have the worst tech and laugh about it while getting the job done won out. This site is bigger than bytes, do what you gotta do. THANKS!

I think WordPress is the devil. We tried it for our consulting practice and it’s just a mess. I know nothing of this stuff but do know that if you use GoDaddy for site registration and management then they have some new AI tools and human support that might get you to where you want this to be with their web templates. Some of their support is free but GD can be very expensive for hosting. I’m hoping other tech experts here can offer better guidance. That said…what you have works, feels homey and like a community. We all deeply appreciate the effort as I’m sure at times you editors must feel no good deed ever goes unpunished.
P.S. I’m sure there’s enough of us happy to pitch in to cover expenses if you want to set something up for that.
Might be worth looking into next year, I just paid the annual bill in April. When time comes to pony up again, that can be an option.
