Not sure if any of you watched the SEC Inside recap of the game against Texas. Drew Butler did…and he has some thoughts on it.

Revisionist history at its best. It never happened if we don’t ever talk about it again, right? Right?

There’s nothing fishy about what happened in Austin at all. The way the ESPN crew was in on it, calling Kirby salty and all, and not pointing out at all – including their officiating rules expert not noting – that a non-reviewable play was influenced by over a hundred thousand whining, violent brats throwing stuff on the field.

I hope when they come Athens next year that we schedule the Twilight Criterium, a Widespread Panic street concert, and a WNBA exhibition game featuring Caitlin Clark at the Coliseum all on the same weekend, and we allow a thousand visitors tickets all along the top rows around Sanford. Bevo will be allowed to participate in the game from a corner of Cedar Shoals High School. Of course, that’s assuming the SEC doesn’t reverse their scheduling decision and have us go back to Austin next year, instead.

I’ve always just found Texas kind of ridiculous and mildly annoying in a South Carolina, holy shit these people think they are something they’re not, but they couldn’t do a better job of being one of the most hateable programs we play if they were trying to do just that. I’m not conspiracy minded but there’s way too much smoke from Saturday for there to be no fire. I’m not exactly sure what was up and who was in on it but losing comm and then magically getting it back, the bizarre officiating, the whole thing. Just way too weird. They’ve earned a FTMF.

      I hated the idea of TX entering the SEC. TX thinks they should control everything that they are involved in, including now the SEC. The thing that bothered me the most about the 7 min. PI call is that it was reversed, and it was not a reviewable play. That call came from the booth and who was in the booth? Why it was SEC guys from Birmingham.
      UGA has done more for the SEC than TX will ever do, and they think they should rule the roost. It seems that some of the big wigs in the SEC are backing TX and that just sucks. To hell with the TV crews, that does not bother me that much, but the SEC getting involved with TX football games does bother the hell out of me. And to
      me representing RR, FTMF.

  3. Does he not realize that $ankey is listed as a producer on almost every single scripted show on the network, when you see the opening or ending credits??? No one really believes that the $EC Network is some objective, “non-partisan”, straight-shooter, do they?
    Anyone seen a replay of the game yet? They probably covered it the same way, so we can make sure those embarrassing 7 minutes go away as quickly as possible….

  6. I’m not sure that the comms came back on like the fellow says above. On a replay last night I saw a shot of Bobo on a walkie talkie during the late touchdown drive. Or maybe it was a huge crayon with an antenna in his hand. Or maybe the comms went on and off.
    And just my two shekels worth, Oscar Delp zigged when he shoulda zagged. Lots of open space to his right. No matter, we scored anyway.

    • It wasn’t a crayon. As a Marine, I would know. And I remember seeing it and not suddenly gettng very hungry, so definitely not a crayon.

  7. Shamefully, last Saturday has brought out the worst of my boorish nature.

    Thanks to Mr Butler’s Tweet, my tailgate group just woke up to the promise that if I see anyone demonstrate an ounce of courtesy to any losers in turd orange visiting next season-I’m going to teach their children/grandchildren ALL the bad words and the next time their wives (it’s some sort of weird contest they have about who can be the winning matchmaker for me-shrug emoji) offer to set me up on a date I’ll be a no show (or worse).

  8. The SEC wants this to go away. Texas wants this to go away. ESPN wants this to go away.

    To no one’s surprise, they edited this in a way to take the real story of those 10 minutes out of the college football world.

    SEC officiating is awful … it has been for decades now. The suits in Birmingham are desperate for Texas to be “back” on their watch. Little ole Georgia stood up and took them down.

  13. An addendum to my earlier post: The league office better get texass under control and fast or this will get completely out of hand and the cancer that is university of texass will become the cancer we have been told they are.

  15. I have t posed this question in a while. Why does college football hate Georgia. And Herbstriet smirking and saying that’s a ghost story that Geirgia fans like to tell themselves does nothing to dissuade me from believing they hate us. I thought it might possibly change after the back to back titles but if anything it has gotten worse. The shit that was pulled Saturday night is them just being out front with it now.

    • Can’t wait til Elon tweaks the “block” function and I can see Kirk and Tim Brando’s tweets again!!! Proud to have been blocked by the two softest, most pompous douchebags in college football, for about the most milquetoast comments/responses imaginable…

    • KH is in the same boat as Steve S. We beat both when they were QB’s and neither one likes Georgia for that very reason.

    • I’ve long heard that the Georgia hate stems from the Jan Kemp debacle, which compelled programs across the country to divert funds to compliance departments and make the backroom/under the table actions of football programs become even more covert about their actions to recruit and gain advantages over other programs.

      Honestly, though, it’s probably the bias from the talking heads. Herbstreit’s hate comes from his loss to the Hearst squad in 1992, where he was the senior quarterback and captain on the Buckeyes team with Eddie George. His father was a captain at Ohio State, so he’s a Buckeye legacy blue-blood and no one can convince me that he can report unbiased against Georgia as a result. His co-host, Desmond, left Michigan in 1991 with a win against the Buckeyes (when he struck the famous Heisman pose), albeit not against Herbstreit. I imagine they co-exist since it wasn’t personally Herbie’s loss. Since Herbie is the face of college football, his bias likely trickles in to different areas whether people detect it or not. Rece Davis (who I personally like) is an Alabama guy, now flanked by Saban. McAfee was punting in the 2006 Sugar Bowl where the Mountaineers famously upset Georgia 38-35. The college football crew for ESPN is filled with Syracuse folks and what representation they have from the southeastern region is mostly Alabama and Florida people. Hard to see how you’re going to get a objective view from that group at all.

      • Fuck ESPN! The vols and gumps game was 4 hours. The uga ut game was 4 hours. If it was another hour of football I wouldn’t care. But it is simply another hour of commercials. I watched the game in Tampa at a bar with me and my wife being the only UGA fans. Every person in there remarked on how UGA was getting fucked by the officials. See! . the paranoids really are after me.

  18. I watched it at lunch yesterday. First of all, yes, it was blatantly orange-washed. Hard to watch. BUT SECONDLY– the camera angle on Arian’s catch that started the last TD drive. He was targeted so f’ing hard I had to back up to see what I had witnessed, and of course no flag or review. UT db absolutely launched himself head first right into Arian’s helmet with zero attempt to make a tackle. Couldn’t believe I missed that during the game, but I suppose I was already numb to the officials horrible game.

    • I was starting to wonder if I was the only person who saw the targeting on Smith. It was definitely intentional.

  19. My gripe about this whole situation isn’t even the overturned PI call anymore. I had plenty of anger about that in the moment, but we won, so fuck em. What I care about so much more now is that the SEC is acting in this Orwellian fashion. They’re asking us to deny what we all saw with our own eyes. They’re trying to gloss over it as though it never happened. Like Obi-Wan, “There was no overturned call.”

    Kirby, Josh Brooks, and Jere Morehead need to be relentless on this and not allow it to be swept under the rug. And frankly, so do all the other institutions. This is way bigger, in my opinion, than what happened in the game. The fact that they’re attempting to white wash this incident is far more egregious.

    • They won’t get away with it. If this was some regional game between a couple of Div 2 teams, then maybe nobody would have noticed. But ESPN and every sports blogger has weighed in on this debacle. If the SEC thinks they can gaslight us, they are bigger idiots than we all already thought.

  20. Another mystery is how was there no Unsportsmanlike Conduct and/or Delay of Game penalty on the crowd? Texas will pay the $250K fine from the change in their sofa cushions. But making them go an additional 15 yards against our D might have changed things up a bit.

  21. If the refs cared so much about getting reviewed calls right, how does someone explain Etienne being ruled down short of the goalline on 2nd and goal? That play was (legally) reviewed, and for the life of me, I can’t see any way he didn’t score.

  24. I dang well have a problem with BOTH targeting calls. Let me say as a former football coach, I agree with not being able to use the crown of the helmet, especially with the size and speed of todays players. We ALWAYS taught keeping the head up and leading with the face through the ball. But damn, knocking the shit out of the opposing player is part of the physical and mental advantage your team wants to establish. Knowing the team your facing will physically knock your ass in the dirt is a psychological advantage.
    Oh, back to the problem, each will miss the first half of the Fla. game.

    • In Kirby’s presser yesterday, someone asked him about appealing the 1/2 game suspension. He wouldn’t say whether they will be appealing the ruling with the NCAA or not.
