Yep, to literally no one’s surprise, another Kangaroo Court makes 2026 the year of bizarro in college sports.
Don’t get me wrong, the crosshairs are aimed squarely at Lane Kiffin and LSU, compelling some of us to head to church on Sunday to repent for ever pulling for Orange, but that’s where we are at. I’m pulling hard for Dabo now, and I never thought I’d say that in a million years.
What’s worse is that the foolishness of litigation around college sports has become so pronounced, that you have moments like this from the court drama on Thursday:

It’s becoming not only a farce for the sport, but for the courts, too. Maybe we take it more seriously as passionate fans, or maybe we’re missing some greater point.
Is it that the NCAA has been too fickle throughout the years, and this is the pendulum swing to counter balance that? Or is it that outsiders are seeing it for what it is, a money-making machine that is still raking in the dough while still trying to rally around some bullshit concept like amateurism?
At least we have college football tomorrow…or what’s left of it.

The ESPN article quoted Lane saying ‘he struggled with the decision’. His moral dilemmas are so inspiring.
The grown-ups up to and including the Governor should have stepped in and told him, “I don’t care about your ‘struggle.’ We aren’t going to sign any of these players for a 3 month contract and risk our relationship with the other members of the SEC.”
By the way, I thought Ole Miss should have told Trinidad Chambliss that we are not going to re-sign you because you didn’t follow up with your former school on obtaining a medical redshirt prior to your transfer. We would love to have you, but we would be complaining if Mississippi State were doing the exact same thing.

Lawyers, Judges, & the legal system SUCKS.
Yeah, rather than have a legal system to resolve disputes folks should resolve disputes with them bludgeoning each other until one wins.
Correct: there are much more real and serious life and death issues for people – divorces, criminal matters, other family law matters, etc. (don’t get me started on civil cases) – that the courts treat like cattle and which can’t get a hearing, but when **** like this happens its role out the red carpet for everyone’s (especially the judge’s!) big day….
Like the lawyers in the Riner case pursuing money from the trust fund the parents established.

This application of the legal system is a joke, and judges should see it as such. I would be saying this if this were UGA in the middle of it.
100 percent correct. Where does it stop? I will add that in cases where juries are involved it can really get scary. There has to be some rule of law or we will be totally dead as a country. But that picture pretty much says it all!! Glad I’m old!!
I just don’t understand why this is the hill the LSU athletic department is willing potentially to die on. They could elect to tell these players that our long-time partnership with the SEC is more important than signing you. They have decided they are willing to risk everything over this.
The “us against the world” mentality is pretty strong down there.
It’s so stupid how they are acting. If Kancer needs those players, he must not be the coach he wants us to think he is. I also don’t believe for a moment that his player leadership group supports this beyond going out and telling the press they support it.

LSU has become an ethically challenged shitty business partner. I’d be fine parting ways with them. They can go rule the Big 12. The SEC will be fine.

Let’s be clear…it’s the constant ineptness of the NCAA, university presidents, commissioners and ADs that have created this mess. They left loopholes and LSU is among those with no morality to avoid trying to exploit them. The courts are being consistent…stop violating equity for the kids by demanding professionalism while treating them as pawns.
It’s clear there is more going on here than seen in public. College sports leaders are NOT on the same page and fighting behind the scenes over power and money. As long as this is happening there will be no rules nor standards for anyone to follow. Rome is burning and they are playing the fiddle.

I maybe wrong but these kids that were at NFL training camps, were not voluntarily taking part, free of charge. I presume they had a contract and compensation in place, but the court thinks that was their only choice. Maybe/maybe not. If (big if) there was no NIL, they would be seeking NFL roster spots or making a living doing something else. Playing football for pay is not a granted right.
Time for the SEC to break away and put in place their on rules across the board. 1st order of business, kick them coonasses out the conference. Divided the conference money in 15 shares instead of 16. All the AD’s will get more money, just what they are all after. Nothing lost, if the SEC boots the boot.
Fall classes at LSU started AUG 24. Last day to drop/add was SEP 2.
I just hope that these young student/athletes remembered to apply to the school within the required deadlines that every other student had to. And that they were able to get some good classes that fit with their practice schedule and will keep them on track to graduate, provided that they maintain the requisite 2.0 GPA.

Hate Lane obviously, but this is just a weird one for everyone to go nuts on. These dudes finished school and they couldn’t play again, got drafted late round or were undrafted signees, then the ncaa or whatever is left of it changed the rules and said there’s another year, but they’re out? If they weren’t good enough to get picked up they all get to come back and play with no issue…that’s what Indiana did, why aren’t we all going nuts about that? It’s a mess for sure, but them practicing with an nfl team for 3 weeks and getting cut doesn’t feel like they should be out but the undrafted dude is fine.
