Regular Season Opt Outs, The New Wrinkle in the Days of NIL

I feel like Rashada might get some calls about how to secure the NIL bag.

I’ve heard of Bowl opt outs, but this? First, he says he was verbally promised $100,000 to enroll at UNLV and as the details of the day unfolded, it became glaringly apparent that his “agent” was one in name only, as no formal contracts were signed or even provided as a component of being the starter for UNLV. Not surprisingly, the agent was quickly discredited and now the undefeated team has lost their quarterback. To make matters worse, this happened:

Undefeated and slowly become unstaffed. Gotta love the new landscape of college football

  1. NIL is the reason that college football will be dead , if they don’t make some changes. What if a player opts out before a playoff game ? Seems there is no responsibility anymore.

    • All this is going to do is lead to contracts or a union contracts between schools/conferences and players. The unintended consequences of this will be bad as well.

      • Kirby basically said as much when asked about the UNLV situation. It’s basically the only solution at this point (we aren’t going back to the good old days).

Given the amount of money that’s getting thrown around, might as well make it professional. Once I get tired of this, I guess I’ll find a club sport at UGA to follow.

      • This. You took the words right out of my keyboard. We already have a ruling declaring players employees. Next step collective bargaining and contracts. The good part is that it should eliminate the opt out. I think ADs are going to insist on that clause.

  2. No, you don’t got to love it, and some of us were warning about this slippery slope years ago – check the archives!

    • Right there with you 79! If I recall correctly, we were told that kind of thinking was ridiculous & that money for the players was a good thing. Seems most of those arguing how good this would be were counting on the powers that be doing things correctly. I believe that kind of thinking was ridiculous. When have those in charge ever done anything well!

  3. BTW, y’all stay safe over there with that storm coming. Looks like this one won’t be messing around.

  4. We are eventually going to have players holding out for more money during the season or before the playoffs. Great times.

    • Inevitable isn’t it? Contracts collectively bargained or not will have to be tested.

    • Good lord I can see it and I want to vomit. Send this much $ to my Venmo and I’ll suit up.

  5. I fear that all that is wrong with the NFL will be visited on CFB. I quit watching the NFL years ago. It hurts to think about the future of CFB.

    • I’m really glad we got two more regular season championships before we start competing for tournament champions.

  6. Senator told all us sums-of-bitches the NIL would be the death of college football. Can you imagine what he would be writing today.
