I’m not going to pay a lot for this stacked roster!
Question – how much did they spend prior to the first year or NIL?
Second question…was Nick singing the same tune when he was the highest paid coach in college football, setting off the space race for coaching salaries that we’re dealing with today?

Your second question is the loaded question. Saban could ave helped the Alabama volleyball team by taking a smaller salary. Instead, the guys at the top want the players to help fund the athletic programs (and free up money for coaches’ and administrators ‘ raises.)
Imagine if he had done anything other than serve his own interests and needs when he had the chance.
Fuck that guy. POS.
No one…no one!…is being forced to pay these NIL deals. Be adults. Reign in your alumni. Reign in your school prez and AD. Reign in your coaches. Cut smaller deals with Disney and FOX. Lower ticket prices. Take the air out of the money grab. The Ivy League did it. It can be done without trip-wiring anti-trust.
Nah….
Doing the right thing and accepting the resultant costs isn’t really a thing anymore ya know.
Saban summonsed a corporate approach to college football like none before him. It’s rich to see him bitch about the shitstorm he practically started.
I don’t care for the guy or his hypocrisy and self-serving smugness either, but if he hadn’t done it, someone else would’ve come along and done the same thing, probably not too long after he returned in ’07…. The facilities’ arms race was already in full swing by then, and it was only a (brief) matter of time before other areas started to escalate after that IMO….
