I actually like the idea/concept and think it should’ve been there all along. Whether the execution of that idea/concept is accurate and accountable is a whole other question.
They can’t get strength of schedule right, so how are they to get strength of conference.

Some think the SEC is stronger top to bottom. Others think there is some self-fulfilling ranking of SEC teams. I think both can be true to an extent (media ranks EEC teams higher, therefore we play a tougher schedule). However, there really isn’t a formula to show this, and the committee certainly isn’t looking deeply to figure it out.

I think it’s time for college football to look at William of Ockham and his razor for solutions.
And once again, this does not apply to Notre Dame since they are not in a conference. They simply have to be ranked within the top 12 to make the CFP.
Their refusal to join a conference has seemed to pay off with their schedule full of ACC and BIG 10 middleweights and bottom feeders (Wisconsin, Michigan State, Purdue, UNC, Stanford, Boston College and Syracuse). Hopefully one (or all) of the teams with a pulse (BYU, Miami, SMU) can hand them a loss (or 3) and keep them out.
Can imagine ND being left out and ranked 13 and the committee chair comes out and states that they have no strength of conference, so that’s why they were ranked there?

The problem is they have to come up with new ways to try and justify these rankings on a weekly basis due to the made-for-tv weekly selection show. If they just released the list (like the AP poll has done for 90ish years) every week, they wouldn’t have to justify their decisions on a weekly basis. But instead, we have to have “insider” articles from dumb-dumb Heather Dinich on a near-daily basis on the website, and hits from her on all the talking head shows that are on ad nauseum, and then Kirk Herbstreit’s smiling face and commentary every week. GMAFB, put some “real” sports back on ESPN and get rid of all the made-for-TV talking head BS!!!!
They’ll use these new data points like all others. That is to get to their preselected matchups.

Yep. They are just trying to come up with a system that guarantees them the most eyeballs and therefore the most $$$ for the telecasts without actually saying that in so many words.
Using this as a backdrop, why did the committee select Miami over Notre Dame? ND brings a lot more eyeballs and clicks than Da U. Miami has a small alumni base, and they have a small fan following. People aren’t tuning into Miami to see Michael Irvin on the sideline acting like a fool. ND has a small alumni base with a massive national following.
I hate the structure of the committee, but to say they are doing Disney’s bidding just doesn’t hold water to me.
