Monday Musings: The Streets are Talking

Slow news cycle this weekend, so here’s something to talk around for today:

Have at it in the comments…we’ve got some interesting ones in our state, to be sure…but if you know some good ones from out of state, let us know about those, too.

  1. Plum Nelly Rd. in Athens was named thus because it’s plum in the country and nelly in the city.

  2. Not a street but Dumas, TX pronounced by me as “Dumbass” gives me a chuckle.

  3. Bug Scuffle Road in Hiwassee.

Out here in Texas we have Hollering Woman Creek, Dime Box (town in Texas), and lots others that I can’t think of at the moment.

  4. Slappey Drive (now Blvd) in Allbenny.

Family trips on I-75 in Macon always included my Dad’s dad jokes about Pio Nono Ave.
“Hey, kids, anybody need to use the bathroom?” “Yes!” “Sorry, can’t use this exit. Sez “Pee-O No No.”

  5. Slick Lizard Road near Carbon Hill, Alabama. Unfortunately spent a lot of time in Walker County, Alabama in the early 2000’s

  6. Cumslo Rd. outside of Macon. A fraternity brother had the street sign hanging over his bed. He brought it back one summer after doing road work there.

    • “Taking it to the streets”….I get the simplicity or originality required in naming the highways and byways of this great land of ours…..this is just plain lazzzzy right here now….Key West Golf Club, the main access road is named ….golf club drive…I’ll go farther and add, that person is no member of Bushwood….GO DAWGS!!

    • Okay, I’m retired from there. Where did you work? Most of my career was in 3700 with stints in 3500 and the old AUTODIN warehouse where the server farm was.
