Well, it happened.
I’m not big on one or the other, but I have to say I didn’t really care for it. I prefer the red and black and silver but for a one off I’m okay with it. I’d prefer a black matte helmet over a white out, but I don’t have much need for change. How’d you feel about it?
I’m not sure how much of a return to it we’ll see given Kirby’s demeanor after the game:
Hey, blame it on the rain. Works for the Volunteers, anyway.
Fake juice. Probably happened because Nike paid more to be able to sell special white gear. It’s all about $$$$$.
We’re 2-0. About to be 3-0. Already hearing “Kirbys best ever”, “best in SEC”, “Natty”, blah, blah….
Kirbys message not only directed at his players but fan base too.
Yall had better tamp it down. Dawgs haven’t played anybody and until we roll outta Tuscaloosa with a convincing win and are 6-0, Dawgs haven’t done anything!!!!
SMDH…..Almost as bad as LSU fans anointing themselves Natl Champions after week one!!!
Yeah I see posts like this and just laugh. Im a fan. I don’t have to take it one game at a time and stay focused. Unless UGA is going to start paying me I’m going to enjoy the wins and react however I want.
All I have for the scared chicken littles waiting for the other shoe to drop is this; how many UGA teams that were good teams have we seen play overmatched opponents and struggle with them, look bad beating them etc? A bunch. So I don’t care that these weren’t “real” opponents. It’s not who you play but how you play. This team is legit and is going to get better. No nothing is guaranteed and at some point the team will meet adversity. Maybe an opponent will play really well, maybe the Dawgs just won’t have their best day. I don’t know. But what team on the schedule do we think would have utterly dismantled the two teams we just beat to the tune of 130 something points? Because I don’t see one.
I am going to enjoy it and Kirby can say whatever he wants but being cautious and tempering the enthusiasm of the team is his job and his problem and he is well compensated for it. I am not and it’s not my problem, concern, or within my sphere of influence. Go Dawgs.
Kirby is always saltier after blow out wins. Saban was too.
I am not a fan of alternate uniforms, but have to admit, all white looked pretty COOL.
Uni’s need to go in the back of the closet with the power ranger ones.
Kirby making sure entitlement attitude about playing time doesn’t set in.
They looked good, but I much prefer the black jersey if we’re going to do something.
I liked them. The kids seemed to like them as well. Every other team on campus plays in variations of red black white silver or gray and no one says a word. Football team does it and people lose their shit. These kids put in a lot of work throughout the year to play, if they like it let them have a little fun.
Yeah. I like our classic uniforms but I don’t see anything wrong with this and actually thought the white looked good. We still have fans who think the black jerseys are cursed because they still have PTSD over the dang 2008 Alabama game. We are 5-1 innthe black jerseys, get over it already.
I realize that I’m steadily turning into the grumpy old get-off-my-lawn old man yelling at clouds guy, and I’m as much of a traditionalist as any Dawg fan. But I have to admit those unis looked nice.
Also, it doesn’t really matter what any of us think about this. If the players liked them and wanted to wear them, kudos to Kirby for making it happen.
I’m indifferent to these things as “fashion choices.” If the players/students enjoy it, whatever.
My line is:
Don’t chase fake juice. Don’t chase gimmicks to win specific games.
Sixty minutes of football cannot be won or lost on that sort of thing.
My preference has always been been:
If we beat Florida, the Seniors can choose the remaining home game where we do this sort of thing. If time allows, they can choose the design for all I care.
You lose to Florida and there is no soup for you!!
To the extent that UF might use that as motivation: FTMF.
I don’t think it needs to be too much of a focal point or distraction for the team, but I’m good with the white helmets every once in a while. The drip brought aura, which is big with the kids these days😂.
Not against a subtle variation on rare occasions, prefer staying with the red helmets however.
Certainly was influenced by the result but yesterday was way better than the black helmet / pants fake juice attempt against Florida in ‘09. Those looked like shit when they ran on the field and began to smell like it as Florida beat it out of them.
If they continue to play like this the rest of the season, I don’t care if they wear polka dot uniforms (that was not a challenge to them to do it by the way). It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen them NOT play down to the level of the competition in these “pre-season” games. Getting the back half of the roster considerable playing time wasn’t something we did the last couple of seasons because they played with their food instead of devouring it. It showed when we needed them. Not only that, but it saves the wear on tear on the ones and twos, so they aren’t worn down at the end of the meat grinder that the season has become. I’m cautiously optimistic that this could be a special season.
I think once you was enough. Didn’t look like us. Still red helmet with power G needs to be there. Agreed, no black pants. Looks kinda like them lint heads from Columbia!
Alternate uniforms are fine as long as they look good (1980 red helmets/ white jersey/red pants vs Tennessee, 1997 red helmets/white jersey/black pants vs Wisconsin (1998 Outback Bowl), 2007 red helmets/black jersey/silver britches vs Auburn, 2026 white helmets/white jersey/white pants vs Western Kentucky).
I can think of 3 that did not and should never be brought back – 1998 red helmet/red jersey/black pants combo vs Florida, 2009 black helmet/white jersey/black pants combo vs Florida & (of course), the worst of them all, the 2011 silver helmet/red jersey/red pants vs Boise State.
White unis make sense in the September heat…black jerseys and helmets are too hot. Esp at a midday game. I DON’T want to look like Pedo State, though…But I’ve always thought that white jerseys are easier for the QB to see down field when he’s looking for an open receiver.
