He might not have been coaching the team, but he definitely had an impact and the Philadelphia Eagles.

You mean it wasn’t Lincoln Riley’s influence? Shocker.
The recruiting material for Kirby sometimes just writes itself.

Hope Kirby and Schumann watched and revisit how an attacking defense that contains the edge beats these running QBs. And what was the KC D coordinator thinking all night? Guess he was committed to 8 in the box to stop Barkley and dared Hurts to throw or run without a spy. Reminded me of a team I watched a lot of this year.
I hope they can rush 4 effectively next year. I don’t see much on the roster that can generate pressure without blitzing.
Who is going to set the edge without Chambliss? Most edge guys seem to be interested in rushing the qb and not so much in leveraging the edge against pulling tackles and guards.
Last night gave me flashbacks to our November flop in Oxford.
Having an interior defensive lineman who demands two blockers helps quite a bit. I don’t think Jalen Carter’s grow on trees. Rushing 4 and playing 7 in coverage is not some brilliant new idea. Tampa Bay did it a few years ago to Mahomes. The issue is: can you affect the qb with 4? The eagles could. Most teams can’t.
What would be even better?
Pressuring with 1 and covering with 10! Genius!! All you need is a guy who can quickly and consistently dispatch 5 350 pounders.
KC made the decision that Hurts was going to have to beat them and not Barkley. Makes complete sense to me.
The number one thing we need is the monsters we had on the defensive line. There’s not a bunch of those guys but whatever we need to do to get some is what we need to do.
Speaking of setting the edge, did you see Nolan Smith take on the pulling guard?
Didn’t blitz a single time & blew up the offensive line all game long. That’s a good strategy if you can pull it off. Watching Jalen lock up at least two blockers all night while his teammates poured into the backfield was a sight to behold. He was just a wall for the area he patrolled. We just need to have a couple of guys like that every year and we’re good. So, where do we look?
