Kirby Smart, Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud

If anything else, I appreciate Kirby for speaking the thing that we were all thinking as the game unfolded last night.

The Gameday crew was literally fellating Sarkisian and the Texa$ program in the morning, and the crew, especially that massive piece of wasted shit Kirk Herbstreit, were trying to justify the overturned PI call as it unfolded. The SEC officiating crew turned into cowards before our eyes, the ESPN group tried to make it seem appropriate, but they didn’t count on Kirby and the Dawgs working it out and getting a chance to say what everyone out there was thinking in the post game interview.

  1. I watched with the sound turned off. I knew I didn’t want to hear Herbstriet. My buddy was texting me and telling me how awful he was and I asked him what I ask everybody, “Why dont you just turn the sound off?” It’s right there in front of you. You don’t need them to tell you what’s going on. But it’s like people can’t resist. They hate it but they have to listen to it.

  2. I think Kirby can handle the fine.

What I can’t figure out is:

The guy throws the flag just after the pick. He has to know the implication of what he thought he saw, right or wrong. He reports the call to the umpire who makes the announcement.

That is supposed to be the end of it. Texas fans lose their shit. Then they confer and say they got it wrong??

Kirby said at the presser that the excuse expressed was that he or they confused 7 and 11.

If he thought it was offensive pi why throw the flag after the pick? If it was intended to be offensive all along why was the flag picked up instead of reversing the call and having texas decline it?

I spent much of the rest of the game suggesting that every play might actually be a Texas touchdown after the refs confer over it. I know that looks like first down Georgia but if they talk about it it’s probably a texas td.

Was that run to the sideline by 1 late as obvious a 1st down as it looked to me in the stands? Looked like it has it by two feet…

Also, wtf is kirby going on 4th and 1 with 15 pt lead and the Hammer of Thorson on the bench? He defended it at the presser. I don’t get it.

Win the damn game. If the idea is that down the road we’ll need that yard, maybe, but I don’t approve of this message.

    • It was and that wasn’t the only bad spot. You were there, was the atmosphere as toxic as it seemed on HD? Of course, you didn’t have Kirk “I want to make puppies with Matthew” Herbstreit going full on homer in your ear, so there’s that.
When you watch the replay, watch how many catchable balls we dropped. It’s bad.
And while I’m at it: Fuck Texas and their classless, entitled pack of fuckweasels masquerading as football fans. Nothing sucks like a big orange!

      • To me they were animated, but not over the line and pretty gracious before and afterwards. I told the ones I interacted with to make sure to make the trip to Athens when they got a chance. My experience was that they were pretty much like me: far too engaged, animated and expressive sometimes in poor taste, but never cross the line into direct confrontation or insult.

Some in my party had some issues with their fans I didn’t know about until after the game. They were less impressed.

Atmosphere was unreal in terms of production. They cast a giant lit ip longhorn over the east stands before the 4th. I assume it was with drones and a computer???

The choice of music was consistently right up my alley.

If I had any complaint it would be that they did far too much with music and lighting between plays. I thought they were using that to create an advantage which I didn’t much care for. Kirby sort of hinted at not being interested in all the bells and whistles in the in field interview.

        I think he was thinking:

These mf-ers think this is a gd Rolling Stones concert but we’re here to punch people in the effin mouth.

Overall it was a really impressive college football experience. Glad I made the trip.

      • This new in the $ec, instead of the b’ham port-o-let review crew making a change, Agent Herbstreit buzzes down to the guys in stripes and recommends a meeting to discuss a definite change in the previous call, see how simple that is, cut out the middle piece of shit….#HBTFD!!

    • If it was supposed to be offensive PI, why not call it? They never did. I know that it would have been declined, but if it was an honest mistake, they should have corrected the call instead of saying that there was no defensive PI and simply wave the call off and award Texas the ball.

      • Well damn. That’s about an ounce of the common sense that isn’t found on an SEC officiating crew.

  3. I forget that nobody wants to win more than Kirby. He used the underdog card to perfection. Passing game is in limbo. The rest showed it has what it takes. Let’s rest and get ready to eat some Gator. Go Dawgs!!

    • For a BullDawg second, at the end of the mid field conversation with the wwl representative, looked like CKS was gonna’ go all “How ’bout those Fuckin’ Dawgs”, with the presence of mind, the love for UGA, he withheld and dropped multiple “Go Dawgs”….#HBTFD!!

  4. Herbstreit said something like “we don’t care who wins or loses the game.” I quoted it at him on X with a “yeah, right.”

His social media must have gotten lit up as he was making all of the comments about the PI reversal.
