Texas Tech decided to pick the hill hey wanted to die on in the Sorsby case: won’t someone think of the children? To recap, they discovered he had a gambling problem, immediately blamed his other parents (Cincy knew!), told the world they would stand behind him, get him mental health support, and serve a two game suspension. Then, back to his regularly scheduled programming…right?
Well, the rest of the college football world seemed to disagree, including the NCAA and Big12 and other non-conference ADs, like Josh Brooks, by trying to block them out of scheduling and, thus, the big money – TV revenues.
So, because it’s us against the world, he’s withdrawing from NCAA competition, will still get paid $5 million in NIL funds (let’s see if that truly comes to fruition), and he wanted to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft.
The NFL said, no thanks, we were your last option, so, bye.
Well, who else to take in Sorsby than the friendly, warm folks of the Canadian Football League, right?
Think again.
Yes, I fully understand we’ve had people playing in the pros and in college sports that had some more serious stuff happening against them. Alabama continued to roster a basketball player arrested with a Cheech and Chong amount of weed, Ray Lewis actually retired from the NFL AFTER the Atlanta stabbing issue, and there’s an untold amount of everything above going on that we’re never privvy, too. So integrity, in its truest form, is doing some heavy lifting here (well, maybe except for the CFL).
Say, did you know that Athens is getting an Indoor Football Team?

Maybe there’s still hope for Sorsby, but methinks the lawyers are just getting warmed up.
I have no sympathy for him. Yes, it often happens that some people get away with all manner of illegal things. But mostly that happens either because we never find out about it (or who did it) OR by the time we do find out it’s too late to do anything useful. I’m also reminded of The Senator’s example of true chutzpah: the kid who kills both his parents, but asks the court for mercy because he’s an orphan. His idea that we should look the other way is just comical.
I get that gambling is an addiction. But so are PEDs and neither have any place in competitive athletics where even playing fields are expected. He needs to get treatment for the addiction if he expects the NFL to sniff him next year.
Bama also not only kept a basketball player no the roster but started him. That’s something they conveniently forget when they talk about their “integrity. “
who was charged as an accomplice in a murder.
Attorneys will be there for Sorsby as long as he’s got bank or potential for a big pay day. But each passing day looks to be getting him closer to the curb.
He’s gambled with his life, and I don’t like his cards. He’ll be fortunate to get a degree (somewhere) the way things are going.
No gambling- no addiction ! He made that choice!! Don’t reward him . What the hell is going on? Always somebody else’s fault. Somebody commented about their Grandma saying the world is going to hell in a hand basket. We are there. Really, really glad l’m old!! Go Dawgs!!!
