Kirby provides the “enough’s enough” summary on Etienne’s status.

I believe Kirby has a point. People asked what his response was going to be. He said it’s internal business, not yours. People said it’s ethics through transparency. Kirby said he doesn’t have to speak to it, the transparency was provided on Saturday. People still asked.

Some may say this is covering, and that Kirby is doing this before the start of the SEC schedule, where new league rules mandate a coach reports status before a league game.

Some may say that it’s been handled, to leave the man and Etienne alone. But those who hear that just retort with the graduation rate, and when it’s time, they’ll resort to other stories.

Sometimes it seems some people who cover Georgia football genuinely hate the team’s success, or suspect that it only came through nefarious means.

That’s either self-loathing or narcissism. Either way, those types aren’t any fun at parties. They aren’t welcomed in the newsrooms, either.

  4. I have to call BS on Kirbs.
    The simple thing to do, regardless of “family”, is to publicly state (once!) the penalty for ETNs transgressions and move on. Give the stinking media the piece of red & bloody meat they desire!
    The sole reason he isn’t providing this info is to not share critical information to his opponent.

    • Could not disagree more vehemently. Fuck transparency! This is a competitive sport and a battle for real estate every time the game is played. This is not about playing to lowest common denominator and acquiescing to the “entitled desire” of some media representative!

    • Yeah. Kirby wanted to keep Clemson guessing, and the silence meant reporters would continue to bring up Etienne’s arrest every week. If it was about his family, Kirby would have dealt with it one time back in July.

    • “The simple thing to do” = the easiest thing to do for KIrby. If Etienne (and other current or future recruits appreciated a little protection from the coach. What transparency issue is there? It is public record that he got charged. The only issue is ‘what is Kirby doing about it?’ as if the questioners are entitled to morally judge. Eff ’em.

  5. Re: Graduation rate

    I whole lot of our guys leave after 3 years to become millionaires. Is this true of sports reporters for the AJC? I thought not…..

    • Maybe the AJC should cover the graduation rate of Pell Grant or College Loan (whatever those are, the GI Bill and 90’s tuition was my funding for UGA) students because OUR tax money pays their way – unlike the CTE-inducing blood money TV networks shower ADs with that pay for athletic scholarships.

      That would get Chump & Company (remember they don’t care if we hate them because we don’t know anything and their “Truth to Power” is what Merica is all aboot) out of their Toppers surveillance and we can’t have that…

  6. He is making a point to the media. He has been the last two or three weeks.
    1) We don’t discuss injuries. Don’t ask.
    2) We don’t discuss discipline. Don’t ask.

    I am not sure how hard it is for these asshats to understand.

  9. I agree 100% with Kirby’s rationale, I just don’t think his approach actually accomplishes the goal. In reality, it ends up becoming a bigger story and gets talked about more/longer because there’s no definitive answer given. If he just confirmed 1 time that its a 1 game (or however long) suspension, then that’s it, story’s over. As it is, douche bags like Chip are going to keep harping on it every single week until he finally plays.

    • you are assuming he’s writing the article as an information outlet and not as hit piece…. Chip Towers does not give a rats ass about the continued success of UGA Football…..
