Last night the highlights from the 2011 Cocktail Party showed up on my YouTube feed for some reason. I had forgotten just about everything about that game. I remembered Richard Samuel’s late game tough running but that was about it. I knew we won that game but for the first several minutes I couldn’t figure out how. Murray seemed to be having trouble. Jeff Demps looked like he was running in fast forward while our guys seemed to be running in mud. Blair Walsh was horrible. Missed two field goals.
Richt and Bobo elected to start going for it on fourth down if they were deep enough in Florida territory since Walsh was going to be no help. Michael Bennett made an almost impossible touchdown catch and wrestled the ball away from the Florida defender who had him covered well. Tavares King made one of his own later for a touchdown and Chris Conley made a highlight catch on a critical third down late.
I remembered very little of it so it was like seeing it for the first time. So much has happened since then. And what I was struck by was how few of those guys would be on the team now. Murray and a couple of the receivers. Isaiah Crowell, he was still on the team at that point. Jarvis Jones on defense and maybe Amarlo Herrera and Shawn Williams. That’s about it.
it was a fun trip down memory lane and made me appreciate where we are now even more. Oh and FTMF.
