Grit versus Gumps

If there’s anything to take away from tonight, it’s that Alabama was spotted hype and a home field advantage and that we still had hope until the end. We played our worst game of the past few years and still almost pulled off the most amazing comeback of all time. We got the lead, for 13 seconds, when most would’ve died and given up. Beck grew up tonight. So did the Georgia Coaching staff. We didn’t see this kind of adversity in recent years, but we responded. Alabama had home field advantage, and sometimes that works for a team. To me, Milroe is still throwing 50/50 balls. He’s no Carson Beck, in other words.

There’s great hope for this team. They got kicked in the balls and got up and punched Alabama back in the face. They’ve got fight. They’ve got stamina. And we’ve got the rest of the year in front of us.

And we’re really good on 4th down. Who knew. This was a game of momentum and energy, and you can’t deny the energy of BDS. It won’t be the same in the Dome.

Go Dawgs.

  1. Tough loss but holy shit our team and our players have some fucking GRIT and do not give up. Even in a loss, I love everybody.

I absolutely am sick to death of constantly losing to Alabama, but I’m proud as hell of this team – players, coaches, everyone.

Nobody gave up, and days like today pay huge long term dividends.

Kirby does not build soft teams. He builds ferociously strong, physically and mentally tough teams.

I feel like we are so close to being an absolutely unstoppable juggernaut like in 2022, but for an entire decade of dominance.

This Alabama coach is still playing with Saban’s recruits. How long does that hold?

  2. Trust, they learned from this. This team is good, but just got better because of it. Nothing Texas or Tennessee can throw at them that will phase them more than a night game at BDS. We will be okay.

    • Disney dawg much? Texas and Tn won’t throw a better offense at us? Our offense will go 2 for 15 on 3rd downs but 5for 5 on 4th downs? Good grief

      • MB. We have a long enough track record to know his limitations. Jump ball for the win!

  3. Do we applaud the comeback or boo the terrible play? The guys with the best plays had some of the worst. Was the problem coaching, play calling or execution? All? None? We’ve all seen comeback games. Team has a few bad breaks and misses, falls behind, but then gets it in gear. This wasn’t it. We were putrid. Bama looked like gods. Then they didn’t and we did. How does that happen. Finally, we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. WTF? You don’t explain it or even review it. Just move on.

    • “Do we applaud the comeback or boo the terrible play?”

Not sure I agree about booing anything, but I get the question. Actually, now that most of the players are or will be professionals, they better get used to it especially for games played poorly at home.

It’s really both. Coaches & players should be applauded for having the resilience to comeback from having dirt thrown on you in the grave and also be held accountable for the reason they were in the 6-foot hole to start with.

Fast starting especially on offense is not this team’s identity. We’ve seen it in every game we’ve played against teams with a pulse. 1 game is a data point. 2 games is a sign. 3 games is truly a trend.

  4. When you spot a team 3 quarters you rarely win football games. Especially at this level. I hated a lot of what I saw but there was also reason to believe in this team. Anthony Evans, Colbie Young, and Lawson Luckie all need more playing time. Beck looked lost, but he started to grow into himself as the game played on. We’ve yet to play 60 minutes of football at our highest level. I pray for our opponents once we figure how to do just that.

  5. I didn’t see the game last night … on an extended business trip and the game happened in the middle of the night for me. I said first one to 30 wins and that’s what happened. A lot of streaks ended. From looking at the stats and the play by play, it looks like we played like hot garbage and then totally turned it around.

Not sure I can bring myself to watch on my DVR.

I’m dreading my MBG post for this week now.

  6. The team is flawed. DL is still average. Secondary was terrible, and it is supposed to be the anchor of the D. The players that you count on made the biggest mistakes: Beck, Dom, Arian, Malaki. Just a putrid start, so much that Bama took the foot off the gas and let ’em back in. Then the comeback makes us all warm and gooey, like this was some magical turning point for this team that will propel them to something greater. Well, guess what. The SEC gave us the schedule from hell. Things are not going to get easier, and the flaws aren’t going to magically go away.

Not every team has to play for it all. That’s fine. We can enjoy the good times, and hope the Alabama football team contracts monkey pox.

  7. Glad the team showed resilience in the 2nd half. Felt like it was important for the team going forward. That said, there are some real issues with this club if they’re thinking about a national championship. The defense clearly has no answer for Milroe, the greatest QB in the history of football. Oh wait, that’s only against us. I just don’t get how Schumann has zero answers to even slow him down. Hope the team grows & improves because unless someone else beats Bama, they’ll be waiting for us at the end of the season. Also I hate Bama as much as I hate Florida!

      • There will be no questioning the culture, style, identity of UGA football, this years edition is working in reverse…questionable decisions made in 1st/2nd quarters of play, half time adjustments, then UGA football is productive, at times destructive in the 3rd/4th quarters of play, identity crisis, NO!, game film does not lie, this is, who this team is, we better strap up the game time straight jacket, cause this shit is crazy…when I say team, that means every fucking body, top down….GO DAWGS!!

  8. Same result with Bobo. Did we come back or did Bama revel in their victory a little too early? I guess some people like the moral victories. Have at it, seems like you will have opportunties with this offense.

    • LOL! Offense scored the most points against Bama in any game under Kirby.

On the other hand, the defense gave up 40+ for the 5th (out of 7) time to Bama.

Seems like both sides need to improve, starting with the defense.

  9. If any moron here continues to defend Mike Bobo, I will fight you. I’ve been saying for 2 seasons, Bobo is not elite and Georgia will never win a NC with him as OC. Kirby needs to fire him the moment the season ends.

    • lol! You’ll fight them? . It’s a shame Bobo had the defense play so bad in the first half amirite? Dumbass.

        • Oh cool shit. And it doesn’t count when they score a bunch in the second half. Bobo can only be blamed and never credited. It’s moving target that only you fucktards can hit. lol.

          • Mike Cooley is a Bobo apologist and a fvcking idiot. I’m convinced he’s related to or is sleeping with Mike Bobo. Likely both.

    • See my retort above, dumbass. Defense has given up 40+ to Bama 5 out of 7 times. Offense on the other hand score the most against Bama of any Georgia team under Kirby.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your brainless rant.

  10. I’m beginning to question just how good Beck is. Is he a good QB? Yes. Is he a winning National Championship QB? Not looking like it. Just watching, he doesn’t look real confident and just doesn’t have that grit and swag Stetson had. An attitude your players around you see and it helps their confidence and they want to step up and play hard for you.
Receivers: Too many dropped balls, this if the friggin SEC. You were recruited because of your great hands. Dom is stepping up, the rest must get better. Can’t get much, if not any, separation.
Colbie, please learn this, when it’s a 50/50 ball “in the endzone” you have to FIGHT for the fucking ball.
LB: Jalon Walker is a boy dawg.
Chaz plays hard, but a step too slow.
I’ll wait and watch it again to finish. Tired of thinking about how shitty of a first half we played.

  11. There are positives to take away for sure. But Incant understand why Alabama was able to jump out to a huge lead in the first quarter and do it easily and iwe couldn’t do a thing to stop it. And why do we have so much trouble making a damn tackle?

I stopped watching it on TV after the first quarter and listened to it on the radio. If you took a drink every time Scott Howard or Wric Zeier said “couldn’t”you’d have been hammered quick. “Couldn’t make the tackle, just couldn’t hold on to the ball, just couldn’t catch the seventeen year old receiver. Couldn’t, couldn’t, couldn’t.” It really became maddening after a while.

There at the end if Colby Young just hangs in to the dang ball or Beck doesn’t make what sounds like a desperation throw we likely win. Plenty of positives but this is the weirdest team Georgia has had in a long time.

    • That last throw by Beck was a duck. Terrible throw. Young didn’t fight for it, but not sure he could’ve done much more than just thrown the defender down and get a OPI. Still better than a TO there, but the ball was horrible. Has to be about 3 feet higher.

  12. If the team takes away the right lessons, and we play Texas close at home, we should be well set for the tournament.

I like our chances the second time.
