A while back I wrote a Game Day post to keep us going through the offseason. The premise: I post our traditional Saturday placeholder, but provide a vague description and let you scamps try to guess which prior game was being referenced. Many of you correctly identified the referenced game, with the help of some pretty explicit clues, which was the 1995 home opener where Robert Edwards launched himself into Bulldog legend status with a 5 TD game against the hated Gamecocks and their Kid Rock QB, Steve Taneyhill.

So, let’s fire up the ole WABAC machine to a Saturday long ago, and see if any of you can determine before Monday what game is being referenced…
As far as away games go, I’m not looking forward to the drive today, as I’m sure many of you are loathing it, as well. Let’s face it, last week’s loss against a team we should’ve beaten badly gave us our third loss this year, so we’re not even in contention to win the league. I’m still baffled at how we let them completely own us in the fourth quarter, technically our second road loss on the year and here we are heading into hostile territory…at night…on ESPN…and it’s going to be traditionally cold, to boot. We’re all still hungover from last week’s game, and I don’t think tonight’s game is going to be the Alka Seltzer that makes it go away.
They’ve only lost one game, after all. They’re still in the hunt for the conference championship, and they’ve been crushing teams with a all-conference defense anchored by a terrifyingly good defensive line. Given that our strength is, as always, our running game, I don’t see how we are going to manage to be competitive against a box that will undoubtedly be geared up to stop the run…to make matters worse, rumor is that our starting quarterback might not even be at the game today, something about a family emergency or something. That leaves us with a backup with no prior starts, so how the hell we are going to counter with a passing game when they line up to take away our only strength is beyond me.
If there’s any sliver of hope, this team lost to the same team we did just two weeks ago, albeit by a narrower margin compared to our fourth quarter collapse just last week.
Color me pessimistic. Nothing is lining up for us in a positive way for this game, and I’m praying we don’t get humiliated during primetime tonight. It’s going to be cold, loud, and obnoxious…another loss tonight, and it’s going to be a long and obnoxious drive back home through the midnight hours, too.

Alright, gang…what game is this referencing? Answer coming Monday…Go Dawgs!
