If you were looking for Dabo and Company to be the hero that nobody asked for, but everybody needs, then you’ll find you’re sadly disappointed. It started well enough with a quick turnover and field goal for the Greater Anderson Cow College, but it quickly turned into reality from there.
LSU won, Kiffin seemed (for the moment) vindicated, and and LSU can beat their chests with pride that it was all worth it.
Of course, Lane should’ve had a little more compassion for Dabo, given all the offseason tampering fun they had with Ole Miss, right?
Nope.
It was Dabo’s worst loss of his career, and he’s now lost in 5 of his 6 last opening games. Give him credit for scheduling real opponents for Game One, but Swinney may have coached his last season opener for Clemson.
Reminder that all glory is as fleeting as a quarterback running from a massage parlor in Cleveland, Ohio. He’d probably be the only thing running for Clemson right about now.
I’ve seen some folks saying Swinney can come join Kirby’s staff once he’s booted, but I doubt Kirby wants anything to do with a guy that has so soundly rejected adjustment in the modern game in Athens.
Lane has become the face of new college football. Dabo was the face of traditional holdouts. Guess which one is going to be unemployed first, and that says all you need to know about college sports today.
Does Dabo survive the week or is he getting canned today after church?

Did anyone else see the travesty at Michigan last night? WMU got absolutely robbed. Not sure if they can overturn the result but the game was over before the refs and league office decided to add a second back to the expired clock. Of course, that lead to the hail Mary TD.
2nd biggest screw job I’ve seen that I recall(see 2017/18 natty game for 1st). It cuda been a Rutgers and Michigan loss(should have been) & a close call for Oregon. But the big10 is AWESOMER than you now!

And the Laner is an asshole. My girl likes him & his antics. I guess cuz he’s cute & brash. I wonder if her fondness of him wanes? Anyway, he just strikes me as the guy at the party who is funny & a good time in the room- but I never want to hang with him individually or in a close friend group.

What would be so Clempson is to go win the Almost Competitive Conference. I do wonder if some of those Georgia high school players committed to Clemson are thinking, “Can I get a visit to Athens this weekend?”
I took a quick peek at Clemson schedule and I think the public will know if the 2027 Clemson HFBC will be Dabo Swinney sometime between 10/3 and 10/17.
Their next four games are GSU (H), UNC (H), Cal (A), Miami (FL) (H). The Cal game has a 10:30 EDT start. A late West Coast game, travel back across the country to face a Top 10 team at home. Based on the little that I watched the Clemson/LSU game last night, Clemson looked a long way from being competitive in the ACC.
Other than their game against GSU next weekend, I could see Clemson being 2nd favorite in the other three. They could 1-4 going into the bye week.
If it hasn’t been decided by mid-October, the winner of the Halloween game between Clemson and FSU might keep their job with the loser being sent packing.
I would expect that there could be a retirement announcement so Swinney could finish out the year but it really looks Clemson needs a new direction.
The result of the game doesn’t surprise me, but the score does. I actually feel sorry for Dabo and my disdain for Kiffin only increases every time he opens his mouth. There’s no doubt that LSU has traded up from Brian Kelly in the coaching department, but damn, Kiffin is impossible to cheer for isn’t he?
I wouldn’t be so sure about whether Lane or Dabo will go out the door first. Dabo has a chance at least of making it through the entire season but Lane is just one Joey Freshwater moment from the door, even at LSU.
