Boy, before this offseason I did not have the lawyers as possibly being the worst thing for college athletics on my bingo card. They seem hell-bent on making sure there are zero enforceable rules, including the prohibition of gambling or anyone ever running out of eligibility. “College” sports is just a farce now. But hey, good on them for finding another fee stream.
At what point do we start pointing the finger at the colleges? The NCAA is, as I understand it, an association of colleges. The colleges vote on the rules; the NCAA seeks to enforce the rules; then the colleges act like the rules they approved don’t exist. Sometimes those rules are illegal, see NIL, but most are not. Isn’t it up to Ohio State – and any other school where these players might transfer – to offer an additional year? Ohio State can simply refuse to offer a roster spot to someone outside the 5 for 5 window. Why isn’t the headline “College Refuses to Enforce Their Own Rules”? The NCAA has been wrong for years, but I’m not sure they are wrong here.
Isn’t that why all law firms exist?
I really don’t get the fact that a school has to take anybody. Has college football now just become a lower level of professional football? Are the transfer rules of the university not controlling any more? What about grades, grade point average. These are not student athletes they are just revenue producing employees, like researchers in the sciences. Just have a court with enough balls to rule they are employees and get this BS over with.
Why are we blaming “the schools”??? It is lawless judges who are unwilling to enforce pretty clear and long-standing legal principles because (for the most part) they don’t want their constituents voting against them in the next election…. Once upon a time, getting a TRO or PI was tough as hell, but now judges are just throwing them out like candy….
New retirement plan. Get fast, cheap law degree. Pass the Bar. Sue the NCAA. Be rich.

Honestly, this is me. Couldn’t imagine saying this years back but my desire to plan my Saturdays around CFB is waning. Ugh.
I’ll say it again, they need a skinny anti-trust law on eligibility and the worst of the issues will be gone. Both parties already agree on it.
